Experts on the Golden Globes

If you’re loving the content from the Golden Globes, we have great news. Below we share quotes from experts who detail their favourite looks and how to recreate them:

Experts on the Golden Globes

Margot Robbie
Margot Robbie 2024 Golden Globes

Tina Farey, editorial director at Rush

Margot Robbie

Tina: “Margot Robbie looked impeccable at this year’s Golden Globes. She wore her hair draped to the back with effortless, bouncy curls and shine. A polished look that we would expect from Barbie!

To create the look: Prep the hair, washing with a conditioning shampoo and conditioner to ensure the hair is healthy and moisturised. Then work through the KMS Moist Repair Revival Creme through towel-tried hair and comb through for styling prep before blow-drying. Next, curl the hair with a large barrel curling tong to create movement and pin these into place allowing to cool and set before removing the pins for ultimate bounce. Brush the hair gently using a wide tooth comb to break up the curls and create a more effortless, soft effect before lightly scrunching a hair oil (like KMS Moist Repair Hydrating Oil) through the hair to give the hair further gloss. This product will help define the curls but it’s also lightweight. Finish by misting through a small amount of setting spray, like KMS Thermashape, to hold the style in place. Don’t be too heavy handed with the product to avoid the hair looking too sticky or set. The key to this look is that it looks soft, luxe and that it has an almost effortless finish.”

Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish 2024 Golden Globes

Suzie McGill, artistic director at Rainbow Room International

Billie Eilish

Suzie: “I loved Billie Eilish’s unique look at this year’s Golden Globes. Billie sported a more low-key, slicked back bun hairstyle with hair poking out- also referred to as the off-duty model bun or the ‘snatched bun’ and paired this with a two tonal look adding a vivid pillar box red hair colour to her dark base for a statement look. When creating this look, using a product that will tame all flyaways and provide the hair with a strong hold is key. Schwarzkopf Professional Osis+ Rock Hard is one of my favourites for creating this look, which I use alongside a narrow dressing hairbrush/backcombing brush to brush the hair back off the face, picking up all flyaways to create the slicked back look. Once you’ve created a high ponytail at the back of the head with an elastic, start by creating your bun, twisting into place leaving out around two inches of hair before pinning into place. The loose ends help to give this style a more contemporary and high-fashion finish and give this simple style a more elevated finish. Finish by misting through some Schwarzkopf Professional Osis+ Sparkler Shine Spray to finish the look and for added shine.”

Emma Stone
Emma Stone 2024 Golden Globes

Brian Leo McCallum, owner of Roar Hair & Beauty

Emma Stone

Brian: “Emma Stone showed a beautiful new hair look at this year’s Golden Globes and I was obsessed! Emma looked to have had her bob cut shorter, enhancing the shape and her gorgeous red hair colour. Her fresh new cut was teamed with flicked out hair styling that takes inspiration from the 1950s/1960s. This styling is making a comeback for 2024 and is being worn softer, with a smooth and shiny appearance and volume at the roots for a modern take on the trend. When creating this look, I would start by washing the hair with a nourishing shampoo and conditioner and then apply a volumising spray like Goldwell StyleSign Ultra Volume Soft Volumiser Blow-Dry Spray into damp hair before blow-drying smoothly with a hair dryer and round brush. To create the flipped ends, use a heated styling iron to smooth over the hair, bending around a two-three inches from the ends. Finish with Goldwell Style Sign Perfect Hold to give the hair a lightweight hold and intense shine.”

Kate Beckinsale 2024 Golden Globes

Tracey Ann Smith, ASP global ambassdor, Fellowship Hairdresser of the Year and Midlands Hairdresser of the Year 2024.

Kate Beckinsale

Tracey: “My favourite look from the Golden Globes, Kate looked absolutely stunning on the red carpet, with her hair a little different than ever before! Wearing sheer sequin dress, the theme was high glamour and her hair matched this perfectly with glamorous high ponytail, complete with high shine and small velvet bows to accessorise. Working to a middle parting, the hair was sectioned, leaving the fringe loose and the rest of the hair styled into a high ponytail, secured at the crown. When creating the ponytail you want this to be smooth and as slick as possible. Working with the ponytail, backcomb at the top of the ponytail to create a great ‘lift’ then smooth this out with a small tail comb. Next you want to use a large barrel tong to give the wave look – keeping this big and voluminous! Once cool, gently brush the ponytail out using a soft bristle brush and use a professional shine spray to finish. Finish the look but adding small velvet bows to the waved ponytail.”

Taylor Swift 2024 Golden Globes

Bruno Marc Giamattei, Joico EMEA creative director

Taylor Swift

Brian: “America’s sweetheart Taylor Swift oozed old Hollywood glamour at the 81st Golden Globes last night, with a beautiful voluminous wave look with a gorgeous statement fringe, to compliment her gorgeous green Gucci dress. The look is something which is so simple yet creates an incredible statement look. To being, it is important that the hair is prepped and ready for the red carpet. Begin by washing the hair with K-Pak Clarifying Shampoo and Conditioner, this really gets rid of any left over products and leaves the hair feeling fresh and ready for the big event. Next, when the hair is 80% dry, use a small amount of the Dream Blowout Thermal Protection Spray, distributing from roots to ends – this gives hair an added boost and nourishes and leaves a barrier of protection on the hair all whilst adding key volume. Next, when drying the hair use a large barrel brush and focus heat at the root to encourage lift and volume. When dry, split the hair into sections and use an extra-large barrel tong, tonging inwards to give the most effortless looking waves. Once tonged and cooled, brush out and finish with a light hold hairspray such as Joico Flip Turn, to keep hair in check whilst allowing free flowing movement.”

Julia Garner 2024 Golden Globes

Ainsley Gray at F&M Hairdressing

Julia Garner

Ainsley: “Julia was one of my favourite looks from this years red carpet, her style was just so her and so different from anything else we saw, I loved it! Wearing a low neckline dress, Julia really channeled her individuality, opting for a tight curl crop, with plenty texture and volume throughout. To recreate this style, it’s all about creating that gorgeous curl and texture, and working with the client hair pattern to achieve this. Firstly, prep the hair with a volumising shampoo and conditioner, my favourite is the Wella Invigo Brilliance Shampoo and Conditioner. Not only does this encourage volume throughout the hair, it also encourages vibrancy of the colour – a win win product. Once washed, evenly distribute a small amount of Wella EIMI Curl Shaper throughout, this will allow you to create the most gorgeous curls! Next up, drying! Use your diffuser attachment and when drying, use your hands to gently scrunch the curls, to encourage that beautiful texture throughout”
