Don’t burn-out this Christmas

Christmas in October? You might think we’re joking, but it’s best to prepare early and to avoid burn-out. You’ll already know, Christmas is one of the most profitable times of the year for any salon – but it’s also one of the most stressful. Beginning your salon preparations early is the key to ensuring your salon doesn’t have a Christmas catastrophe. However, this makes it feel like it’s almost impossible to take a breather before the most ‘wonderful’ time of the year. It’s crucial that you slow down and take a little time for yourself, but how? We chatted to industry pros about what they do to slow down before the festive season and take a little time for themselves…

“Spending time with family is my down time. Tuesdays are my day to make memories permanent with my daughter Rosa for her YouTube channel – I document it on my YouTube channel “Watts Rosa Doing”. For me, it’s important that we take a moment to enjoy our quality time together and family should always come first. Be present”.

Safy Burton

Safy B, from Safy B’s Salon

“I always try to have a little downtime in October before the craziness of the busy season kicks in at the salon. Once that’s over, it’s full steam ahead with work and all the industry events leading up to Christmas. To make sure I don’t burn out, I keep one day a week completely free – no plans, just me on the sofa catching up on my favourite TV shows. It’s the perfect way to recharge!”

Ijan Davies

“I unwind by spending time with my young children and my new baby boy – quality time with them at this age is so important. Staying fit and healthy, resting when you need it, keeping a positive mindset are all so important for your own personal wellbeing and career, so creating good consistent habits that serve you not just at Christmas time but through the year is essential”.

Tracey – Ann Smith, from French & Ivi

“I’ve recently picked up padel tennis and I’m absolutely obsessed! I play a few times a week with friends and family, and I find it’s a great way to destress! I also love getting lost in a good book – being on the couch with a good book, snacks and my favourite drink is absolute bliss!”

Gill Berry

“I’m a pickleball fanatic – I absolutely love playing and it’s a great way to unwind before the busy festive period. I also love going for long walks on the beach with my dogs – when the air is crisp but the sun is still shining, I couldn’t think of anything better!”

Sevda Durukan

“To relax and unwind, I spend time with my personal trainer. I see this as ‘me-time’, and a time to make myself feel good! Spending quality time with my little family is also important to me, it helps me to switch off – my husband, my 2 boys, my girl and my little dog!”
