Colour Blocking for short hair

Colour blocking continues to be a defining colour trend for 2026, but it isn’t just for long hair. In fact, short hair is where colour blocking delivers its most striking impact.

While colour blocking can be adapted to any hair length, shorter styles bring a new level of precision and visibility. Every section, every placement, and change in tone is fully exposed, allowing the technical skill behind the colour to take centre stage. Nothing is hidden, and that’s exactly where the power of the look lies.

Colour Blocking with Leigh Legano

Colour blocking is about intentional design. Colour placement is carefully mapped out in advance, considering where the client wants to see light, depth, and contrast. The key is ensuring the colour works in harmony with the haircut, enhancing shape and structure rather than competing with it.”

To create this look I started with clean foiling slices to create sharp, controlled panels of colour. Allowing for accuracy and consistency, building bold sections that feel deliberate and refined. The hair is lifted from the root to establish a strong foundation before I used Matrix Super Sync to achieve the perfect tone. This step is essential in balancing the overall look, softening areas where needed while maintaining a strong and bold colour placement. The result is a polished, modern finish that still edgy but wearable.

Colour blocking is than just a trend, it represents a shift in how hair colour is approached. It’s a technique-led, gender-neutral method that prioritises individuality. It’s tailored to the individual client, making it adaptable, expressive, and personal.

Bold colour isn’t about length, it’s about intention. And when it comes to making a statement, short hair proves that less really can be more.

Short hair. High impact.
