Alex Thaddeus talks colour

All things colour with Alex Thaddeus

Alex Thaddeus at Alex Thaddeus Hairdressing, shares colour trends and techniques for 2023. Buckle up for an exciting ride! From the off, Alex expects elevated colour in 2023; we will see bold and creative combinations that create luxurious and expensive hair. Colour is coming to life this year, from Pantone’s brave colour of the year, Viva Magenta, to softer blondes and caramels.

Red and pink

Alex says red looks hot right now… all shades from burgundy with its violet hue to rich, warm coppers and everything in between! Red is an excellent colour for clients looking for bold styles this year, and there’s a shade for everyone. Following Pantone’s colour of the year announcement, we will see magenta tones across the board. We’ll see subtle magenta flashes through blondes and brunettes and all-over colours for clients confident enough to take the plunge.

Caramel blondes

Alex says caramel blondes add a soft dimension and rich, warm hue to hair. This shade is perfect for clients seeking a subtle blending colour, edging away from high-maintenance bleach highlights. Warmth is especially flattering to clients with cool skin tones. This luxurious colour will take your client’s blonde to new heights.

Hot trend alert

Subtle curl lights will make waves in 2023, Alex says. Create this look by adding colour or tone highlights which are lighter, or lowlights that are darker than the client’s base shade. Curl lights create depth, dimension and texture in all hair types…fabulous for highlighting feature points of your hairstyle and creating a ‘wow’ factor!

Air touch balayage

Alex says air touch balayage is a colour technique she expects to see more of in 2023. The clue is in the title; this technique uses air vs traditional teasing and backcombing to help create a seamless blend. For this look, take sections of hair at a time and create tension on the most extended lengths. Use a hair dryer to push the shorter coats and internal layers down and out of the way to help create a soft blend.

Have fun and try some of these fun trends in the salon this year; we look forward to seeing the results.
