Adelaide’s In Awe Salon has a new space

Difficult times to grow or start a business, so we’re giving a hi-five to those doing it – we applaud your bravery! On that note, In Awe Salon in Adelaide, South Australia, has unveiled its new space and it is truly a wonderland of colour and texture!

Creating In Awe

Originally opening its doors in 2012, In Awe Salon has always evoked a free-spirited feeling, with colour and personality imbuing every aspect of the salon interior, welcoming clients into a space where they could be themselves and feel cherished; truly an extension of its owner Megan Panozzo’s passion and love of creative colour.

Fast forward 8 years, and, finding they were at client capacity, with 7 chairs always full and the salon feeling like it was growing smaller in size, In Awe Salon burst onto the hairdressing scene with a colourful offering of pastels, bright hues and inspired tiling and materials.

“It was amazing welcoming our clients in for the first time and seeing them in awe, in ‘In Awe’! I always had a vision of creating a space that felt like a dream when you walked in, and my vision for the new salon was Mid Century…just as the acid kicked in! I wanted to create a space that was still a colour speciality salon with a uniquely modern interior – something that was different to anything else being created at the moment, that felt high end with a twist” Megan explains.

Liaising with friend and interior designer, Aislinn Morris, Megan was able to gather her ideas – which was sparked by a hot pink acrylic table on Pinterest – to create the space she wanted; retro with a twist. So pretty, well done Megan!

Creating something new and profoundly aligned with In Awe’s reputation, Megan and her team have ensured the salon doesn’t conform to the ‘usual’ and ‘expected’ salon encounter, instead innovating a unique client experience.

“We don’t have a dedicated retail shelf. We have a display table where we create a merchandising space, allowing us to talk about home haircare and retail before we start the service. I also made the choice to abandon the traditional idea of a reception desk. I am fully connected to my clients throughout their visits; we share so much and I follow a really heart-led experience for them. We ask our clients to stay in their chair at the end of their visit and use our iPads and check them out with the Timely app.”

A safe workspace during pandenic

Further enhancing this holistic approach to the client experience, the In Awe team complete all retailing and rebooking in the chair, whilst they’re sitting on a stool, capturing and working with the same energy that’s connected us throughout their visit.

“I want to be the Uber of hairdressing,” Megan laughs. “Once all of my clients are using the new payment feature in Timely they can walk out the door without even having to have money change hands.”

Signing the lease on the new salon a week before COVID-19 hit, it was a challenge to envision the new space coming to life. Thumbs up to Megan and the team for sticking to the plan and delivering. It’s very motivating for all of us.

“It’s been such a blessing that we now have all this space to grow the team and still provide a space for clients to feel safe, in the wake of COVID. Finishing the salon has been something for myself and my team to really look forward to, and I have cherished my team and their love and ownership of the space. It’s definitely been a great moral booster in 2020!” says Megan, and we wish her and the salon team the best for the new year and the future.
