A King’s message

The Hair & Beauty Charity is celebrating a landmark 195th year of supporting hairdressing and beauty professionals in need. And a message from His Majesty The King amplifies the joy. The charity’s committee are thrilled and so are we.

A King's Message - hair and beauty charity
The Hair & Beauty Charity committee are proud to show off the letter

In his words

In a letter from Buckingham Palace, the message read: β€œPlease convey my warmest thanks to the Hair & Beauty Charity for their kind message, sent on the occasion of their 195th Anniversary which is being celebrated this year.

β€œI much appreciate your long-standing commitment to providing financial assistance, wellbeing support and practical help to professionals within the hair and beauty sector, and their families, during times of hardship, illness and personal crises. I send my warmest good wishes to all those who are present for a most successful season of events.”

What we see

Founded nearly two centuries ago, the Hair & Beauty Charity has been the backbone of the industry through changing monarchs, eras and trends. We’ve all grown up in the industry with the knowledge that this body works hard to be in a position to offer financial grants, emotional support and a lifeline to hairdressers, barbers and beauty professionals facing hardship, illness, bereavement or crisis. From apprentices to salon owners, the Charity has helped thousands of people across the industry, offering support when they needed it most.

The baton of president, the roles of fund-raisers, trustees and admin teams is passed on through the decades. Each work tirelessly – showing up at industry events, calling our attention to the need to build and maintain community. [see HERE for the latest fundraiser idea]

The current Hair & Beauty Charity President, Jayne Lewis-Orr says: β€œReceiving recognition from The King is a proud moment for everyone involved with the Charity, from our trustees, to our fundraisers and beneficiaries.

β€œSince 1831 the Charity has been there for industry professionals who had nowhere else to turn. Looking through our archives, many issues our beneficiaries face today were also issues 195 years ago – being unable to work through unexpected illness or injury, our Orphans Fund helped children, while our financial support helped families make memories they will never forget.

β€œAs the Charity looks ahead to 2026 and beyond, the anniversary reminds us that the need for support has never been greater.”
