3 things to consider before a short haircut

As short hair continues to be popular for AW24, there are a few things to consider before taking the plunge. Jake Unger from HOB Salons, says there’s a shorter hairstyle to suit everyone. “You want your new haircut to have the wow factor – the first wow factor is an involuntary reaction if something looks incredible. Then there are three key ingredients to achieve ‘wow’: suitability, execution and fashionable, each component just as important as each other to achieve the desired reaction.”

Jake Unger

Suitability – based on face shape, body shape and lifestyle. Be careful not to pigeonhole certain face shapes with particular haircuts – some people say you shouldn’t have a bob with a round face shape, this isn’t completely true, it all depends on the length chosen and if your hairdresser has created volume or slimmed the shape.

Execution – you may have found a haircut that suits all the above, the next important aspect is ensuring it’s done well. Do your research and book a hairdresser who loves creating haircuts.

Fashionable – staying relevant to what is in fashion is key to your haircut looking wow. Look at what the catwalks and celebrities are doing with their hair; it can be the best cut hairstyle, if it is not fashionable or ‘unfashionable’ then it’s not going to look great.
