Hooker & Young launch REACH Education

With an accolades list as long as their arm, a hugely successful salon group and the business acumen to boot, it was only a matter of time until Gary Hooker and Michael Young added education to their repertoire. Here the dynamic duo reveal what sets their programme REACH – Renewed Education and Creative Hairdressing – apart from the rest.

REACH for the stars

“REACH is designed to be accessible and affordable for salons where whole teams can benefit from what it offers,” begins Michael. “So whether its salon education, business seminars or photographic days we will ensure to deliver what the individual salons want.”

He adds: “We’ve both been in the industry for a long time and still love what we do. It just feels right to do something a bit different and give something back to the industry.”

Education is evolving

Over the years both Michael and Gary have held numerous creative ambassador roles with an array of manufacturers delivering education. With the majority of them held at academies or regional facilities like wholesalers, where salon stylists go along to attend a specific course.

“You always get feedback after courses and do become aware of why delegates are actually there,” says Gary. “Quite often they’ve been sent by their manager on a course that they really don’t have a lot of interest in. That said people always learn from education and end up having a great day.”

But the hairdressing industry is definitely changing and education is part of that change.

Bespoke to your salon

Michael explains: “The team at REACH will create bespoke days tailor-made to a salon’s specific requirements. We liaise with the salon owner/manager and establish what it is their team really wants and needs. Education should be fun, motivating and inspiring for the whole team. Programmes can consist of a full workshop style day, full look & learn or spilt days. The content can be very much created to suit the salon and either focus on one specific area or several.”

REACH is not your ‘normal’ salon education as it has so much more to offer. It also offers business seminars designed to inspire and motivate stylists and entire teams in areas like building a clientele, retailing skills and building a brand.

“It’s really exciting to be able to share everything we know with other salons to help them grow and achieve great things,” concludes Gary.
