Longer summer days mean more time soaking up the sunshine outdoors. And hair protection from the sun is vital. But what about those days being stuck inside? A cocktail of heat and humidity makes for frizzy hair – the bane of everyone’s life.
For Tina Mehmi, Rush Artistic Colour Team Member, nothing tops simple, breezy hairstyles to beat the heat! Here is some inspiration to share with clients when considering the next cut:
The Crop

Tina loves a crop and has this to say: “If you’re thinking about experimenting with a new look, then summer may be the perfect time to do it! If your client hates damp hair sticking to the back of the next, then try the crop. This style is a delicately feminine approach to the classic Pixie look. It offers a much more effortless rendition with its summery, relaxed feel.
Essentially, the crop is a Pixie cut that has been left longer on the top to achieve the boho-chic essence of the look. With the crop, you won’t lose on movement and texture, but the hair won’t stick to the skin – it’s a win-win!”
Slick Back

With humidity to consider, Tina has this advice: “With the beautiful sunshine, comes the worst hair combo ever – humidity and the dreaded frizz. Sometimes the only way you can possibly tame the frizz in the heat is bringing out the good old trusty slick back. And you’re in luck, they’re in fashion! The classic slick-back bun is the perfect style to keep hair off the face – especially if you’re short on time! I’d recommend using a strong-hold hairspray to keep the style looking sleek all day long.”
Braids
Here’s a twist on styling for best comfort. Tina says; “Braids are the perfect option for all hair types and lengths on those warmer day – especially if your client has wavy or curly hair. Even the simplest of braids look absolutely beautiful. And they also stop the hair from becoming tangled and frizzy with the heat, meaning less breakage!
“My favourite is Dutch braids, as you can customise them to a personal preference. Whether you’re after a sleek, tighter look, or a more romantic, ‘un-done’ feel, the Dutch braid is the perfect way to add a pop of glamour.”
Bubble Ponytails

And for ultimate ease, teach your client how to put up a new style of ponytail. “Elevate your classic ponytail this season with the Y2K-inspired bubble ponytail which is loved for its practical yet trendy look. This style works best with second-day medium to long hair. This makes it great for the warmer weather when desiring a style that will keeps hair out of the face.
“The key to nailing this trend is to create an effortlessly ‘un-done’ vibe. Embrace flyaways and texture for a messier look. Use clear elastics to create the bubble effect cascading down the hair. “
Four neat ideas to share with your client – from cut to styling, these beat the heat!
