Autumn/Winter Men’s hair trends

Jim Shaw, multi-award winning hairdresser and owner of Toni & Guy Billericay shares his insight of what trends we should expect to see in the men’s grooming sector this autumn.

Colour

When it comes to men’s hair colour, the stand out trend for this autumn/winter will be bleached hair. Men will look to lighten and brighten their hair up and have this toned to give their hair a clean, platinum hue or an icy white/grey tone that’s fitting for the season.

What’s great about this look? If a client gets bored of the colour they can add a pop of colour for a fun and playful finish.

Cuts

Disconnected hair cuts are forever in and out of fashion. This season they are back on trend and we expect to see clients requesting super short hair on the sides with a longer length on top. Forget gradually fading from short to long; we want something abrupt to make a statement.

The military inspired ‘regulation cut’ will also be popular this autumn. A sharp and fresh style where hair is trimmed down on top but kept longer than the sides, which are tapered and gradually cut shorter before reaching the nape of the neck where the hair can be shaved off completely to help reflect a true regulation cut look. This haircut is usually styled in a statement side parting and sleek to the side for a further clean finish.

For longer length hair, mullets will be the textured look for the season. Hair is cut shorter and choppier on the front and side with the length kept at the back, however we’re expecting the modern mullet to be slightly softer and more graduated. We also may see some short mullet requests with a blunt fringe. A French crop style around the face for a trendy appearance.

Styling

Of course styling will depend on your client’s choice of cut. We’re expecting to see shorter haircuts worn much sleeker. Incorporating pomades with a shine finish for a neater, more polished appearance.

Another autumn styling trend will be men slicking their hair back from their face, to one side. By mixing their products with serums and oils, they’ll be able to achieve a wet-look and high shine.
