Last night Jade Hayter joined us at the LAB Session in Glasgow to share the journey of her co-working space. The 145 Collective is a refreshing salon space in the heart of Glasgow. Shortly after opening the doors in 2022, it quickly became one of Scotland’s most forward-thinking hubs for hair professionals, educators, and creatives.
Inspired by the model of the former Hunter Collective in London, Jade set out to build something that didn’t just offer chairs but created opportunity.
And at the heart of it all is Jade’s why. She identified a clear gap in the market. Scotland needed easier access to high-level hair education.
Instead of waiting for change, she built the space that could make it happen.
A community of modern freelancers
At its core, 145 Collective operates as a beautifully curated freelance salon, where stylists can book a chair by the day — giving them freedom, flexibility, and a premium environment to grow their business.
But what truly sets it apart is the culture Jade has created. This isn’t just a workplace. It’s a community.
There’s a genuine family vibe running through the space, one where freelancers support each other and where Jade actively supports them too. She encourages her team to use the freelance suite, which helps them understand their pricing, and ensures they’re charging in a way that allows them to actually earn… not just survive.

The blank canvas
When Jade reflected on where she wanted 145 Collective to sit within the industry, the answer was clear: Education needed a home in Scotland.
So she created a completely unbranded room inside the premises; a true blank canvas where educators and brands can transform the space into their own. No logos. No fixed identity. Just a premium environment ready to be styled however each company wants.
Some education providers and brands have stayed with Jade for the full four years — returning again and again because the space works, the experience is strong, and the atmosphere keeps people coming back.

Evolving with the industry
Beyond education and freelance styling, 145 Collective has grown into a multi-purpose creative environment.
The space has already hosted:
- Professional photoshoots and content creation
- Pop-up shops and brand activations
- A green room for Strictly Come Dancing
- Industry education and workshops
It constantly adapts to the needs of the people using it.

Responding to client needs
Where many salon owners would automatically rent out a spare room to a beautician, Jade took a different approach. She noticed a growing number of clients seeking hair replacement services and more importantly, that these clients often preferred privacy, comfort, and discretion.
So instead of filling the room traditionally, Jade created a private space dedicated to these more personal services.
It’s another example of how 145 Collective isn’t just following industry norms, it’s responding to real people and real demand.
