Equipoise

Equipoise by Brandon Messinger

A finalist for Tribu-te’s The Big One and the BHA’s – Brandon Messinger has really caught the industry’s attention with his Equipoise collection. Commercial yet edgy – we love it too!

Inspiration

This year’s collection ‘Equipoise’ was probably one of my most challenging collections to date. As a technical cutter I always want to push boundaries but sometimes have to strip back. I took a risk and created something I feel is artistic but rooted in commercialism (which is unlike me). I wanted to create something a little more grown up whilst still having signature element of me.

Textured hair has always had a special place in my heart. I’ve always been drawn to the challenging and technical. It’s funny, in the past textured hair was unjustly feared by a lot of hairdressers and salons. I witnessed countless clients being turned away. “We don’t do your hair type here.” I never wanted this for my clients – or anyone. Over the 2 years I’ve been hairdressing I’ve improved due to not wanting anyone to welcome. It’s nice to see more of an embrace with a new curriculum into hairdressing, as hair is just a material. I’m very proud of this collection.
