Happy Earth Day

Ellie The Blog

Happy Earth Day! Being green in the hair world isn’t the easiest hurdle to overcome. Just think about the chemicals we’re washing away, rubber gloves and plastic capes being thrown in the bin and the amount of electric being used on a daily basis. We’ve had a word with some of the eco-warriers of the industry and here’s what they have to say…

go green

Our ongoing FREE education covers salon waste streams, ethical suppliers, industry leaders, sustainability experts and much more! Allowing you to operate your business with less of an impact on our natural world and with more positive contribution to society.

Aveda – Gina Conway

Do you know what your carbon footprint is? You can check it here. It’s easy, fast, informative and can really let you know what kind of earth legacy you are leaving behind, and how you can change the trajectory of your salon and the future of the planet.
I will be discussing lots of ways to make changes at home and in the workplace on a live talk on @avedauk at 7pm (22 April)  As well as things that make the biggest impact on carbon footprint. You’ll be surprised what a difference just you can make. Let’s honour Mother Earth today and every day.

Davines

Davines has launched a collective challenge through AWorld, the official app selected by the United Nations to support the ActNow campaign against climate change. The app provides practical suggestions on how to help reduce CO2 emissions linked to human activity.

Foil Me

It’s a common misconception that hairdressing foil can’t be recycled when in fact it’s the most sustainable tool for highlighting and balayage. We think it’s important to put the message out there – all foil is RECYCLABLE and made from a percentage of RECYCLED aluminium. Foil Me are proud to be collaborating with Green Salon Collective – the original authority on salon sustainability throughout the UK. Get in touch with them and start recycling your foil, it’s one of the best things we can do for the environment.

WeDo by Wella

Tackling global warming is of course a huge challenge for everyone, but hair salons can really make a difference because of the massive amount of energy we use! So switch to a green energy supplier, reduce the amout of hot water you use and make sure all your lights arte LED. To find out what more you can do, have a look at our sustainable salon toolkit

Jo Gilder

Switching washable towels for biodegradable towels as this not only is more hygienic but also saves energy and also reduces micro plastics in our waterways (100% saved money and resources). Recycling wherever the salon can, working with local authorities to recycle what resources we have, ie: card and paper (local schools, recycling plants). Reducing our water usage. Foil washed and sent to recycling plant as this is our biggest and cheapest recycling format with in the UK.
