We all need charity. The humanitarian act of giving help or support to one another is part of our intrinsic make-up as emotional caring humans. Although many of us may never need to call upon or accept the help of a charity as such, the very existence of such organisations is vital in reminding us we are all vulnerable, feeling, social people. And naturally, since hairdressers are about as sociable as people can get, our inbox at Respect is rammed with pictures and reports of fundraising activity in salons everywhere. Brilliant.
We each of us have causes dear to our hearts, probably for personal reasons, that we prefer to support, but can we also make a suggestion that you also remember the Hair & Beauty Benevolent (HABB)? Yes, it’s a bit of a mouthful – and the ‘benevolent’ does sound a bit antiquated, but essentially this is a charity which is dedicated to helping hairdressers.
Hair & Beauty Benevolent (HABB)
Whatever the level of involvement, whether current or past, as part of the hairdressing industry you can call upon HABB for help – for you, your team, your former colleagues. It could be a life-chaning injury, illness or loss that has financial impact for an individual or family. It could be to help someone through a short-term bad patch. HABB is arguably an under-used resource so remember, they are there to help – the only criteria being that you are part of the industry . To meet with increasing financial demands, HABB has increased adult beneficiaries payments by 40% in the past two years. It also has a financial commitment for more than £22,000 per year to support children of families in the hairdressing industry.
This is massive and relies upon constant fund-raising. So why not get involved in the second time round of a one-day fundraiser on June 24th – Hairdressers helping hairdressers day 2016. Last year’s event raised more than £20,000 and the wish is to exceed that figure. So in amongst activity for your special charities, try and make room for HABB – it’s a great team effort and could one day be a ‘life-saver’ for one of your or your team. Click here to find out more.
