We’d been practicing our curtsy for weeks in the run up to the ghd Queenmaker tour and were feeling suitably majestic as we rocked up to the London launch (there is also an Edinburgh tour).
As part of ghd’s ongoing mission to celebrate hairdressers and help them perfect their craft, ghd’s two-date Queenmakers’ tour served dual purposes; showcasing the new ghd Platinum+ styler and giving education an inspiring update with a new format of learning, for a new generation of stylist.
It was fabulous to witness just how immersive education can be when the hairdresser – or Queenmaker, in ghd terms – is put at the heart of the session. As well as receiving their own Platinum+ styler, guests were treated to inspiring, relevant education in social media, salon-friendly styling and maximising their kit for effective results in a shorter time.
In Edinburgh, ghd Creative Artists Samantha Cusick and Patrick Wilson were on stage, while in London Patrick was joined by session stylist and fellow Creative Artist, Luke Benson. Between the three of them, they provided an inspiring insight into all aspects of hairdressing, with a special focus on social media and how to use it to maximise bookings. Both events featured selfie spaces and phone attachments to secure smartphones to salon mirrors, for the ultimate in client selfies and process documentation.
Each education session commenced with a powerful dance routine from four models, representing the ghd Queens, as featured in the new Long Live the Queens campaign. Next, it was time for a show-and-tell as the guest artists completed model looks on stage, sharing their own advice on styling, social and business, as host Dafydd Rhys, quizzed them.
The second half of the session provided a chance to get hands on, as guests got to try out their new stylers and create their own looks. All of the experts were on hand to provide practical advice, with looks then shot by a professional photographer in a pop-up studio space.
