From beachy waves to playful braids, celebrity hairstylist Akiko Russell shares her go-to looks (and pro product tips) to keep your hair cool, chic, and holiday-ready all summer.
Medusa Braids
“Double twin tails are the perfect hairstyle for summer outdoor activities like camping and hiking,” says celebrity hairstylist Akiko Russell. “They keep your hair secure and cool, and the two rope braids make the style extra fun!”
To keep the base smooth and flyaway-free, Akiko worked in SMOOTH&SHINE Styling Cream adding both control and a glossy finish that holds up in heat and humidity.
Yacht-Ready Waves
“Easy, breezy, and perfectly undone, yacht-ready waves are meant to look messy like wind-swept moments at sea.”
To achieve the look, celebrity hairstylist Akiko Russell prepped damp hair with EXPANDA Volume at the roots for lift and hold, and once dry, generously sprayed TEXTURIZA Spray for instant volume, fullness, and definition. To finish, she used the nutrient-rich SMOOTH&SHINE Styling Cream to polish, plus control frizz and flyaways.
Siren Texture
This dreamy mix of crimped, curled, and waved strands comes together to deliver the ultimate ethereal texture.
To achieve the look, prep damp hair with 7SECONDS Detangler for softness and protection. Once the hair is dry, layer in TEXTURIZA Spray and EXPANDA Dust for grit, grip and amplified fullness. Finish with seashell pins or coastal-inspired accessories to complete the siren-worthy aesthetic.
Ghost Waves
Soft, subtle and barely there, Ghost Waves offer an understated take on beachy texture.
“The waves are a go-to for summer styling. The natural texture enhances the hair’s movement while maintaining a relaxed, trend-forward look,” says celebrity hairstylist Akiko Russell who used EXPANDA Volume on damp hair at the roots, and finished on dry hair with TEXTURIZA Spray.
Half-Up Top Knot
“A half-up bun with mermaid waves is a go-to look for summer festivals and fun outdoor events. Keep the bun loose and let some strands fall naturally around your face – it adds a relaxed, playful vibe that’s just right for the season,” says celebrity hairstylist Akiko Russell.
To get the look, she used TEXTURIZA Spray all over for definition and SMOOTH&SHINE Styling Cream to polish and shine the ends.
