Tom Smith: Flamingo Pink

Pink is more than just a trend; it’s a mainstay on colour menus from pastel or vibrant and everything in between. And Flamingo Pink is one of the key trends for AW24 according to Tom Smith, evo international creative colour director for evo.

“A vivid and intense flamingo pink shade that glows in the light is one of the key colour trends for the coming season. It’s ideal for those keen to make a bold statement, this intense flamingo shade is one to help you stand out – as worn by Halsey, Avril Lavigne and Sza.

“Pink looks great when it’s just been coloured, but also as it fades, as it dilutes through shades of paler and softer pinks and peaches. We’ve probably had the highest amount of celebrity references for various shades of pink and so this also helps to make it a gentle step into the non-naturally occurring shade world,” he explains.

“evo fab pro is a great way of providing a temporary wash of pink on top of your clients existing bonding appointment. You’ll have reinstated their highlight technique, and then wash the pink on top, meaning they are almost getting two colours in one appointment; he initial pink, and then the blonde which lies beneath once the pink fades out. They can choose to keep the pink by maintaining it at home with evo fab pro custom mixed take home conditioners, or simply let the pink gently wash back to blonde.”

Tom’s top tips for working with pinks

1. Be clear on whether the goal is a warmer or cooler shade of pink, this will help inform your formula of choice.

2. Determine with your client how intense the shade should be, it’s always better to start more diluted and layer up pink rather than risking something too intense.

3. Decide with your client whether the pink is designed to gently fade out, or whether your client wants to keep it as long as possible. In which case a custom mixed Evo fab pro take-home conditioner such as evo fab pro that your client uses when they wash their hair will stop the tones from fading out by topping them up with every wash.
