As summer begins, clients turn their attention to lightening their hair to give them lighter, brighter or more sun kissed tones and hues to their hair. Joico Colour Ambassador, Dan Spiller reveals all about the ‘Luxe Blonde’ trend. “As a colourist, I know all too well that blondes are of course the trend of the Summer season. Clients love nothing more than a beautiful, multi-dimensional colour that equates to that of a sun kissed look,” says Dan.
It’s time to bring sense of luxury back into the colour market, with this latest colour trend. We’ve all heard of the ‘Rich Reds’ and the ‘Exclusive Brunettes’. Now it’s time for blondes to take the spotlight and become an opulent, stand-alone trend.
The Luxe Blonde trend, is based on a mix of different shades free hand coloured onto the hair, using fewer low lights and shadows and focussing on a higher percentage of highlights – with a variety of different shade and tones throughout. The use of multi tonal colour not only creates a transformative dimensional look, it also brings each colour together, creating a warmer and much more expensive looking colour. It’s important to note that the use of multi tonal colours also reduces the unwanted brassy tones often seen through blondes.
The technique
When creating this gorgeous colour, using a freehand technique to apply the colour is the best way to achieving the luxurious tones of the desired blonde. Depending on the number of colours used to create the look (I would advise between 3-5 shades), apply this in a routine placement. I always take the client’s skin tone into account and I would tailor the placement to compliment this. I use JOICO Blonde Life Lightening Powder on a lot of my clients when creating this look.
The Care
Caring for blondes as we know if extremely important, to ensure the colour is kept looking it’s absolute best and as bright and vibrant as ever. If the client experiences or has extreme warmth throughout, using a toner or inviting them back in between appointments for a toner would be my suggestion, along with a professional blonde home care regime.
