Bringing it down to a salon-relatable level, let’s hear from Dan Mewies on how to recreate her fantastic hair style. As always, the half-time show was one of the most high-profile music moments of the year. Millions of viewers worldwide tuned in for the 13-minute performance and her look is bound to be emulated at upcoming Summer festivals. Be ready!
Inspiration from Rihanna
Dan Mewies is a salon owner, session stylist and brand educator for Authentic Beauty Concept. He’s a dab hand at interpreting fashion and celebrity looks in a way that makes them easy to present as an option for clients.
Dan says, “What a show, what a performance! As usual, Rihanna bought her a-game and delivered a masterpiece. As for her hair, I loved the high, snatched ponytail with braiding detail. It was the perfect mix of on-trend, simply stunning and functional, which is always a great combination when you’re suspended in the air whilst performing live to 28 million viewers.”
Dan’s top tips for recreating this look:
- Dan says that prepping the hair is critical to recreating this look. You want to achieve a slick base with hold. Add Amplify Mousse by Authentic Beauty Concept on towel-dried hair before drying
- Once dry, add Airy Texture Spray for added grip and heat protection before straightening
- Next, pull the hair back into a high snatched pony, leaving the face-framing sections out. Dan’s hot tip: get someone to spray Strong Hold Hairspray lightly into the hair as you brush it into place, then secure it tightly with elastic.
- Once in place, you can add ponytail extensions if required
- Next, add the braiding to your ponytail and finish with a Working Hairspray
- Straighten the face-framing sections and finish with a very healthy dose of shine spray, giving it that gorgeous glossy, glass-like finish.
