If you weren’t queuing for Oasis tickets yourself, you knew someone who was… And if another 90’s band reunion wasn’t enough, we’ve heard from OSMO ambassador Kyle Ross who tells us the mod look is also coming back. Are we about to see the iconic Gallagher brothers haircut trending again? MAYBEEEE!
Why is this hair style so iconic?
The style perfectly encapsulates the 90’s ‘Britpop’ era. Inspired by mod cuts from the 60’s, the shaggy and dishevelled styles worn by Liam and Noel, were deemed effortlessly cool and inspired an entire generation of young guys.
Do you see guys wanting to wear it again? If so, how may it have moved on for a look today?
Since hearing the news about the reunion I’ve been asked this question a few times, and every time I said “maayyybbee”. On a serious note though, I certainly can see there being a bit of a resurgence. The hysteria the news has caused would suggest the guys are carrying more than a little bit of influence. A more modernised version of the style would most likely keep the length and the texture, while having more emphasis on structure, some cleaner outlines and tapered finishes.
What would you ask your barber for with this look?
To achieve a modern take on the Oasis haircut, you could ask your barber for a textured, layered cut with a longer fringe. The key is to keep the top and sides at a medium length with plenty of layers to maintain that signature tousled look.
How best to style it with OSMO at home?
The key for styling this looks is to go with dry matte finishes and messy texture. You can achieve this by applying OSMO Extreme Volume Root Lifter (RRP £12.50) to damp hair and finger drying encouraging movement throughout. Show off all the layering with OSMO Matte Clay Extreme (RRP £11.20) spread evenly throughout all the style and then ruffled up and ‘undone’. Once you’ve got it sitting just right, pop a little spray of OSMO Extreme Extra Firm Hairspray (RRP £15.70) to lock into place.
Anything else you feel may work for a new take?
Consider pairing this hairstyle with a modern twist, like adding subtle highlights or lowlights to enhance the textured layers and give the hair more depth. This can add dimension to the cut and keep it looking fresh and current. Additionally, facial hair can complement this look, think a well-groomed stubble or a neatly trimmed beard to add contrast and balance to the overall appearance.
