L’Oréal Professionnel are encouraging salons to introduce a new service menu for colour. For as long as freehand lightening techniques remain the most desired look by clients, we will see a bigger gap between appointments. And, that’s where the new colour service menu comes in. Clients can come back to the salon for an express colour service – such as a toner – to keep their colour looking salon fresh without having to have a full colour – perfect for building client loyalty.
We also think the new colour menu is great for clients who are thinking about a change, but not entirely sure. You can introduce a client to blonde with face framing, and who knows, they might just be booking in their French Balyage before you know it. Root shadows and glossing are also perfect ways to introduce colour to your clients.
We’ve got the low down from Jennifer Linton, Linton & Mac to find out how she’s getting in with structuring colour services in this new way.
Linton & Mac’s Colour Menu
At Linton & Mac we changed our colour menu, after lockdown 1.0, to be bookable in time rather than service technique. This allows our team to manage each appointment by giving the client what they can in the time allocated and letting them create the colour work they want rather than being stuck into a service which isn’t always the correct technique needed.
We have a 30 minute colour service which is mostly used as our maintenance appointment, commonly used for face framing and tipping out the ends to give a fresher feel to most blondes at the moment. This allows us to upsell the maintenance appointments and use the time to give the hair what it needs for a touch up.
We also have a bespoke toning service that is used after most lightening services and is commonly used for maintenance. We call this Method Toning. We use 2 – 4 different shades to neutralise, create depth and add shine to finish off a colour service or maintain!
Our newest addition to our colour menu is a Gloss & Blow-dry with our junior stylists. This is a slightly discounted service where our youngest stylists (who are trying to build up their column!) do a Dia Light Glossing and blow-dry.
All of these services are great for filling up gaps that we can have in columns now due to colour appointments being stretched with modern colour trends. This is such an easy upsell to our guests as we, as well as them, want their hair to look salon fresh at all times – they are affordable services that also don’t take long! All stylists encourage this and we also market it in emails and through social media.
