With the reopening of salons on the horizon, we want to know how colourists should be preparing for post Lockdown colour clients. Gareth Hassall, UK Education Manger for COLOR.ME by Kevin Murphy gives us the low down on patch-testing and shares his predictions for post Lockdown client demands. Watch our whole talk HERE.
Patch-testing
First things first… check with your insurer and what your cover is regarding patch-testing. You will then need to look at the salon’s patch-testing process as well as the manufacturers. Think about how you approached this pre-Covid and make any necessary adjustments to your protocol. Consult with your client when they book their appointment and find out if they have had any allergic reactions, tattoos, semi permanent makeup or if there could be any other factors that may affect their colour service.
COLOR.ME recommend a patch-test 48 hours before a colour, and the longest distance between services without another patch-test is 6 months. For some salons their protocol may not support this and they may need to test more frequently. We say it’s better to be safe then sorry!
Colour changes (or not)
Unlike the first Lockdown, Gareth isn’t anticipating as many drastic colour changes this time around. He said “Back in December, it was no secret that a potential Lockdown might happen, so our stylists would have been having colour consultations with that in mind and would have been managing clients expectations.”
Gareth also tells us that there has been a larger demand for lower maintenance colours such as balayage since Lockdown. After learning to live with our roots (love them or loathe them) colour choices have been more about enhancing your natural colour and creating movement.
Whilst we patiently wait for April 12th to get here, we recommend using these last few weeks to complete any online education, plan your retail sales – as clients hair needs may have changed AND (most importantly) catch up on our chat with Gareth over on our Facebook page.
