Just when we thought fashion fever had calmed we get a little message from our friends at KEVIN.MURPHY that the buzz continues in the Czech Republic where four of the brands UK stylists have just finished working backstage at the tenth anniversary of Mercedes-Benz Prague! Squeal!
Among them is Laura Haystaff, director of The Topiary chain of salons in North Hampshire, who began stocking KEVIN.MURPHY nine years ago and in 2014 was made a SESSION.SALON. This was super exciting news for the salon team as it’s meant they can participate in an intense education programme to learn the latest editorial styling techniques. It also means they get to help backstage a numerous European fashion weeks.
Joining Laura for MBPFW (Mercedes Benz Prague Fashion Week) was Bonita Coles, Louise Woods and Helen Burgess, who had a jam-packed schedule with up to 10 shows a day.
MBPFW has evolved over the last 10 seasons to become the largest fashion event in the Czech Republic with the event modelled on top fashion weeks from around the world. Each season the event introduces the work of meticulously selected designers from the Czech and Slovak Republics with a full supporting crew on hand. Since inception, the KM team has been led by SESSION.MASTER Craig Hughan Babicka from Stolen studio, an amazingly beautiful and industrial salon located in Praha 5, fondly referred to as “Little Manchester”. With ten seasons under his belt, Craig was the perfect person to keep the team cool through back to back shows, unveiling fabulous new collections.
Here Laura shares her favourite looks from the event…
Look one – Braided top knot
Any event needs a perfectly styled team and each day the MBPFW hostesses had their locks braided and tamed into a stylish top knot.
Get the look:
1 – Use ANTI.GRAVITY to add grip and enhance texture throughout
2 – Create five beautiful braids formed from nape to crown and secure with elastic
3 – Work the remaining hair with FRESH.HAIR and pin into a top knot
Look two – Lived-in texture – Designer: Zuzana Kubickova on location at The Four Seasons Prague
For this show each model was styled differently with the focus being on creating a mood of effortless, lived-in free-form hair. The model in this image was playing the piano throughout the pop-up show so we needed to ensure shorter layers were secured.
Get the look:
1 – Prep with BODY.BUILDER and ANTI.GRAVITY to add volume from roots through to ends
2 – Use cortex and deep waver tools with FRESH.HAIR, DOO.OVER or BEDROOM.HAIR to create texture
3 – Finish with a simple sweep or twist of the hair and tie away from the face.
Look 3 – Sleek with Form – Designer: Melania Freire on OD Kotva Main Stage
A classic Prague FW look where the individuality of each stylist comes through. Aluminium clips were used to secure playing cards to smoothed hair, creating a strong hold for interesting shapes.
Get the look:
1 – Prep with ANTI.GRAVITY and BODY.BUILDER
2 – Smooth UNDRESSED through the models hair and create shapes and interest to the front
3 – Create individuality with a tendril in front of each ear and place onto the skin with the help of UNDRESSED
4 – On the line, add a quick spritz of H2O to retain the wet texture finish.
Laura’s product essentials
BODY.BUILDER– a volumizing mousse that locks down the cuticle to create shine while giving the hair a flexible fullness. Amazing to prep hair for all day session styling.
UN.DRESSED– a natural style fibre crème for a loose undone look. Work this product with water for amazing consistency.
SHIMMER.ME BLONDE – Our go to…create shine without glare on the catwalk
ANTI.GRAVITY.SPRAY– A non-aerosol, weightless spray helps to add volume and shine to hair. A FW must! FRESH.HAIR– A dry spray that gives body and texture and removes excess oil.
