Jemima

We’re sure you remember Anthony Mascolo’s collaborative collection with Calligraphy Cut that dropped earlier this year – recap HERE. We’re sharing Anthony’s step-by-step so you can create the shape and texture of Jemima’s  hair. If you’ve already got your hands on the Calligraphy Cut pen, then follow the steps below and share your results with us on @respectforhair.

Get the Jemima look

  1. Jemima before the cut
  2. start by taking a central profile part of the natural side from the crown to the nap. At the centre back comb the hair to natural fall, carve out the length squarely, at a one fingers depth elevation
  3. Continue with the same process towards the sides, working consistently at a low elevation
  4. Next take another slight diagonal section from the centre part to the low point of the recession area, same technique following the guide from below, maintain a low elevation throughout the perimeter
  5. Releasing the remaining hair at the side part. Take a vertical section at the back. Over-direct the section slightly back and begin the layering at a 45 degree elevation from the top down.
  6. Pivot sections towards the ears following the guide from before. Over direct each section slightly back to the previous one.
  7. Complete the layering in front of the ear using the same technique.
  8. Repeat the same technique on the opposite side. First establish the baseline and perimeter working with slight diagonal forward sections.
  9. Take a diagonal back section across from the other side.

  10. Complete the perimeter length, create a ling asymmetric fringe from the side part to open up the face ad create movement.
  11. Remove weight from the remaining sections at the back and the top. Pivoting sections behind the ear using the guide from the opposite side. Over-direct each section slightly back. Remove weight internally, detail the shape where needed.
  12. Cross-check for balance then blow-dry the cut with fingers to encourage the hair’s natural movement.
