Indola reporting from backstage at London Fashion Week

The reports from backstage at London Fashion Week are in and unsurprisingly hair genius Johanna Cree Brown whipped up some stunning looks on behalf of Indola. Special kudos to her work at Huishan Zhang, where location restrictions meant the hair team couldn’t use any heated tools or aerosols!

Huishan Zhang

Huishan Zhang

For Autumn/Winter 2024, Huishan Zhang explored and celebrated the conflicting personalities and sartorial signatures of Ingrid Bergman and Anna Magnani, romantic rivals in a legendary cinematic feud. Hair was inspired by these actresses with an integrated grunge vibe and Alfred Hitchcock inspired elements, while delicately nodding to the elegance of the 1940s. The result? A mesmerising juxtaposition of slick wet-look with soft shapes, texture and movement.

The location of the Banqueting house meant a restriction on product usage, so hair looks had to be created without the use or hot tools or aerosols. Leading the team, Johanna Cree Brown used a selection of products to achieve the desired aesthetic. From the Color Leave-In Hair Mask to the Blonde Expert Insta Strong Spray Conditioner creating a flawless base for the wet-look. The ensemble was further enhanced by the application of Curl Cream, Strong Mousse, Texture Glue, and Fibremold to shape and mould the hair into a chic, modern 1940’s grunge.

Indola continued to captivate audiences at London College of Fashion (LCF), University of the Arts London (UAL) MA Fashion Design Technology Post Graduate show. Here the hair team presented four distinct looks that epitomise versatility and innovation in hairstyling.

The looks and products used to achieve them were:

GRUNGE – Curl Cream, Strong Mousse and Salt Spray to add some grit.
ETHERAL – was all about dry, parched, thirsty hair with no moisture. So the focus was on the texture and movement using Texture Spray and Volumizing Powder.
POLISHED – was a clean, expensive look so the Volume & Blow-Dry Spray was used for styling and the Flexible Hairspray used to finish the look.
GREASY – with a focus on the roots the Gel Spray and Glamourous Oil were layered up to create shine.

Backstage at Ancuta Sarca AW24, the brief was ‘landing in a dystopian airport.’ These are the two looks, the Indola team created…

Look 1: Airport chic updo

An exaggerated and much more sleeker version of how a celebrity would hop off a plane and stroll out of the airport to the city. Prepped with Indola Thermal Spray then Volume and Blow Dry Spray, the hair was blowdried straight and flat in a strong middle parting, making minimal volume in the roots. Then applying Gel Spray from the root to about five inches of the hair length and brushing the hair through securing it in a ponytail at the back of the head. Twisting all the tail part into a rope sort of shape, then securing it with an original Ancuta Sarca crocodile clip. The very ends of the hair was finished with a generous amount of Glamorous Oil Gloss for extra shine and richness.

Look 2. 90s Business chic

Flat, poker straight and glossy. Prepped with Indola Thermal Spray then Volume and Blow Dry Spray, the hair was blowdried straight and flat in a natural no-parting when there’s bangs, or strong middle parting (if no bangs) making minimal volume in the roots. Ironing with a hair straightener slightly inwards, but almost poker straight. Finishing the length of the hair with a generous amount of Glamorous Oil Gloss, leaving it much heavier with product than you would normally do. Comb through with a wide tooth comb and lightly pinch/twist the ends to give separation to the hair.
