Authentic Beauty Concept hold sustainability summit

If you’re familiar with Authentic Beauty Concept, you’ll know all too well its commitment to uniting like-minded salons and hairdressers through meaningful and engaging events and conversations. So, it will come as no surprise to you that the vegan haircare brand, in partnership with Green Salon Collective and Leaf Scissors, recently hosted its first Sustainability Summit. More than 30 salons from across the UK and Ireland joined the online event where attendees came together to share brand initiatives and practical advice, with a view to making the industry more sustainable and mindful.

Emily McTavish, brand manager for Authentic Beauty Concept discussed the brand’s plans for a more sustainable future. These include work with the Sustainable Guar Initiative and Hairdressers Without Borders as well as the widespread roll-out of salon refill bars for 2022. Of the summit, Emily said; “We love to encourage open conversations and this get-together was the perfect platform to share best practices, ideas and news as well as get inspired about how we can all be more sustainable.”

Green Salon Collective Founder, Fry Taylor shared insights into the brand’s work finding circular solutions for everyday waste which include using hair to create booms for cleaning up oil spills, as well as ongoing projects with designers and architects to produce pioneering materials from salon cuttings. And Leaf Scissors founder, Steve McManus explained how even the smallest changes in the salon or at home can make a huge impact. He said; “Each and every person in our industry has the ability to make a difference and I believe that the more we all connect, the more likely we are to move our industry towards a more sustainable and healthy future.”
