Great Lengths supports Childhood Cancer Awareness month

Did you know September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month? We hear the much-loved hair extensions brand Great Lengths is proud to help support those experiencing the traumatic side effects of cancer treatment through its ongoing partnership with the Little Princess Trust.

Founded in 2005, the Little Princess Trust is a UK-based charity which makes and donates real hair wigs to children and young people experiencing hair loss caused by cancer and other illnesses. Great Lengths has been exclusively partnered with the charity since 2015 when James Henderson, owner of M Hair in Nottingham, initiated a donation scheme, which sees clients encouraged to donate their extensions, once removed, to the Little Princess Trust.

Donate Great Lengths hair

Great Lengths offers this unique donation scheme in over 1500 salons across the UK and Ireland, as well as in more than 60 countries globally. Clients who opt for Great Lengths extensions can change lives by agreeing to donate their used extensions to the Little Princess Trust. These extensions are expertly prepared by Great Lengths before being transformed into real hair wigs by the charity and provided free of charge to children and young people in need.

Earlier this year, Great Lengths master Jade Searcy, owner of The Hair Pod, was named Great Lengths Most Charitable Salon of the Year at the brands’ annual GLammies awards night, in recognition of her support for the Little Princess Trust – including the most donations of any UK salon in a twelve month period.

This Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Jade’s hope is that more Great Lengths certified salons and stylists will raise awareness of the partnership: ‘I have worked with Great lengths for ten years and absolutely love their ethics – and their partnership with the Little Princess Trust is so inspiring. It is important to me and my clients to support the charity, because we all know how beautiful and confident we feel with hair extensions. The opportunity to pass that feeling on to those incredibly brave children to make them feel like themselves again is very special, and the most perfect way to end your hair extension journey.’

Great Lengths’ dedication to ethicality and hair quality ensures that only 100% human hair extensions are accepted by the Little Princess Trust. The company meticulously selects the finest quality human hair through a traceable and ethical process, starting in India and continuing at its production facility near Rome, Italy. All processed hair is Remy and double drawn, meaning it maintains its natural qualities and is the same thickness from root to tip. Participating in the donation scheme costs nothing for clients and salons alike, offering a meaningful way for salons to give back to their communities and reduce waste.

‘I encourage every single client to donate their removals to the Little Princess Trust. Even in the initial client consultation, I explain that I donate all extensions once removed and everyone is always happy to be part of this special journey’ says Jade. ‘I will continue to send every removal of hair extensions to charity and I’m so happy that as my hair extension business grows, my donations will too. I will also continue to use social media to create awareness and to encourage more people (even if they aren’t hair extension wearers) to donate and fundraise.’

Little Princess Trust

‘At Great Lengths, we believe in the power of giving back and supporting meaningful causes,’ says Joscelin McCourt, CEO of HB Collective, the home of Great Lengths. ‘Our partnership with the Little Princess Trust reflects our commitment to ethical practices, 100% premium hair quality, and making a positive impact on the lives of children and young people.’

‘We are honoured to be associated with the Little Princess Trust and to play a role in supporting children and young people facing hair loss,’ adds Joscelin. “By choosing Great Lengths extensions, clients not only enhance their own hair but also contribute to a greater cause, making a difference in the lives of those in need. The support of our stylists – including James and Jade – goes a long way in promoting this initiative to a wider audience and I’m thankful for their ongoing efforts and donations.’

As a mother herself, Jade holds the work of the Little Princess Trust particularly close to her heart. ‘It feels incredible to win the Most Charitable Salon award’ she explains. ‘It means so much to me to think of those wonderful children that are getting their smiles back through the power of hair. I cannot think of a nicer award to have won and to have been a part of. I get to make people feel beautiful with the extensions in and again when they have been removed and donated – what an inspirational charity!’

Jade believes that the partnership is yet another way in which Great Lengths is raising the bar when it comes to hair extensions and explains that the initiative can help attract new extensions clients. ‘My advice to other salons who want to make a difference through donations is to bring the scheme up at the initial consultation. It is a HUGE selling point in my opinion, as the hair isn’t wasted, and it really does help these children. Introducing the idea at this stage helps get them excited about playing their part and is also a talking point with anyone that comments on their hair extensions.’
