Lydia’s 2018 entry
How did you interpret the unique Elemental theme?
The first thing that struck me was the earthy tones, complimented by muted pastels shades and the raw texture of the styling and cuts. I am not a minimalist, but the minimalism meets maximalism aspect of the trend was really fun to interpret.
Sectioning was key and I used the same sections for both my colour and cut. The key was the ‘fit to flare’ shape in the sectioning and creating conscious disconnections.
The typical “go for it!”. Really immerse yourself in the trend, research in depth the theme collection and analyse it to the nth degree!

Who from the industry inspires you?
I’m inspired all the time. Up and coming hairdressers astound me with their talent. I love how many people are willing to share their skills and support other stylists, but I have drawn so much inspiration from my mentors Beverly C MBE and Neil Barton.

What’s your go to hairstyle for yourself?
I’ve been sporting various versions of a mullet for the past two years. I’ve always wanted long hair but am too easily bored. This way I get the best of both worlds.
Just my scissors for when my fringe gets in my eyes!
