Move over Emily in Paris, there are three new girls in the city of lights. Recently, Kirsty Judge, Rush Salon Manager and Colour Team Member; Jessica Hau, Rush Creative Team Member; and Nicole Appadu, Rush Session Team Member, visited Paris as part of the L’Oreal ID Artists team activity.
The trip saw L’Oreal ID Artists from year one and year two come together for a weekend of inspiration, where artists could come away feeling inspired, motivated and filled with creative ideas.
Day 1
The group were provided a masterclass by Darren and Jackie Ambrose that brought together fashion couture with hair and that was influenced by the next generation of fashion designers. The demonstration was held at the L’OREAL REAL Campus, the original L’Oreal building and it’s also the only place in Paris where you can get a degree in hairdressing!
Darren and Jackie presented four models live and discussed how they used fashion to influence the hair and how they used natural materials including flowers and berries within the hair and when working with wigs they used different crafts providing a 3D impact to further expand their creativity and to create statement hair looks.
From this experience the team were encouraged to open their minds more, not to box of their imagination and instead, when working with hair and having an idea, to go wild and just do it. The team left the presentation feeling exceptionally inspired and ready to take what they had learnt back to the salon. They were made aware that this type of work is not just avant garde, but that it can be translated down into prom and bridal hair looks for clients within the salon.
Jessica Hau said, “I really enjoyed the demo with Darren, it was so much fun. He did four models and all were completely different looks. It was inspiring to watch.”
Day 2
On day 2 all of the ID Artists had a day to themselves where they could do as they pleased and explore the city. With some of the girls not having been to Paris before, Kirsty, Jessica and Nicole decided to spend the day sightseeing. They visited attractions including the Eiffel Tower and the YSL Museum and explored the bright and fashionable lights of Paris. Although much of the sightseeing involved walking around in 46 degrees heat, they enjoyed every minute and made memories to last a lifetime.
In the evening, the girls spent their time on their hotel’s rooftop bar – the Mama Shelter Hotel. Here they enjoyed having food and drinks at the bar and a live DJ with some of the other ID Artists.
“We were so lucky to visit the YSL museum, we immersed ourselves in this create hub and it was a truly incredible experience. Sharing this with my RUSH family was the cherry on top.” Nicole Appadu commented.
Day 3
Time to head home and back to their salons to share their new found inspiration with their colleagues,
Commenting on the experience and being an ID Artist, Kirsty Judge said, “The trip to Paris was such a fantastic experience and so much fun. To be an ID artist is to be surrounded by like-minded individuals that help you find your own identity and pathway in this industry it’s about being your highest most creative self and opening doors you were scared to open, but most of all it’s about making friends for life.”
