Ellie ghd: always a good news story

In light with their 20th birthday, cult British hair tool brand are sending us on a trip down memory lane to reminisce on their hair-itage and most memorable moments.

2001: The launch of the classic styler

A new hair styling product was placed into the hands of British women. With a nationwide army of stylists endorsing it, a monthly trip to the salon no longer represented a good hair day – every day was about to become a good hair day. Life-changing for millions of women!

2002: Not just a hair tool

One year in and the term “I’ve ghd’d my hair” was rolling off the tongue, ghd also went global with ghdhair.com

2003: New innovation

The ghd II classic and mini stylers launched, ghd also became the first salon-only brand. to advertise on television.


2004: #MoreThanJustAStraightener

The straighteners became known as stylers as we learnt new tricks. This was also the year of the first pink ghd styler for breast cancer, ghd have since raised over $20 million for Breast Cancer charity since launching this annual campaign.

2005: Recognition

The Sunday times recognised ghd as one of the fastest growing companies in the UK.

2006: Cool brand

ghd’s were available to purchase in premium retail, they also became known as a ‘cool brand.’

2007: More…

We saw the launch of ghd IV classic, mini and max stylers.

2008: Thinking time

This was a pretty quiet year with plans being made on how to develop the brand.

2009: Improvements

The ghd R&D facility in Cambridge opened. Committed to improvements in technology and hair health, the facility now develops all ghd ground-breaking technology.

2010: New innovation

Hello ghd V gold classic styler.

2011: Another innovation

Brushes, combs and products hit the shelves.

2012: More innovation

The first ghd hairdryer was born.

2013: Victoria’s secret

ghd became the first ever tool to sponsor the Victoria Secrets fashion show.

ghd curve collection2014: New innovation

The gorgeous curve collection launched, as well as the ghd aura hairdryer.

2015: Going platinum

The platinum styler arrived

2016: Safe travels

Not being able to travel without our trusty hair tools, ghd gave us the travel hairdryer.

2017: BTS

Things were pretty quiet, but we knew ghd were working tirelessly behind the scenes

Platinum+

2018: Platinum+

Ghd platinum+ SMART styler launched. With ultra-zone technology that predicts the needs of your hair allowing for 70% stronger hair, 20% more shine and 2x more colour protection.

2019: Breaking the internet 

The glide hotbrush broke the internet with the way it effortlessly tamed and dried frizzy hair. The ghd oracle also launched – a new method of curling hair.

Helios2020: Hello helios

ghd heliosprofessional hairdryer launched. Fitted with unique Aeroprecis technology for ultimate styling control and 30% more shine. The ghd rise hot brush also hit the shelves creating more volume in women’s hair. 
Ghd were also the SS21 backstage hair tool at: Chloé, Dolce & Gabbana, DIOR, PRADA, Miu Miu, Ports 1961 and Valentino.

2021: 20 years

As well as celebrating their 20th birthday, ghd are blessing our tresses with the new max styler. The biggest styling plate yet! The time saver we’re really excited for. We’re also getting a limited hair-image couture collection and 10 new products to protect our hair and for longer lasting results.

We’ve really enjoyed this trip down memory lane and can’t wait to see what the next 20 years has in store for ghd.
