The winner of evo’s Best-In-Hue competition is announced! After two months, 1,500 entries plus a whole lot of deliberation, evo reveals the winner of the brand’s first-ever Best-In-Hue colour competition. This is an event inviting colourists from around the world to demonstrate their creativity by using evo’s hue-verse colour range. The search was on for an outstanding colour that is both on-trend and created using top-notch professional technique. The search is over…
Winner revealed
Meet Abigael McCormick (@hairbyabigael) who stole the show with her vibrant entry that featured an elevated copper colour created using hue-verse. Abigael is a salon owner and artist at Collective + Cove in Canada. She says she approached this colour with the intention to have fun and be creative. We love it! Her advice to fellow colourists is to “set the goal, mentally set the standard, formulate with intention, be honest with yourself, trust your formula.” Abigael says to trust ‘hue-verse has got you!”
Who judged?
Of course any competition is only as good as the judging process! For evo’s Best-In-Hue, the panel included great names:
• Jay Kownacki – head of education and product development at evo
• Nicole Kae – creative director
• Tom Smith – creative colour director
• Jules Tognini – director of ‘good times’
• Belinda Mills – creative team member
The standard was high. Let’s hear what the judges feel made Abigael’s winning look a stand-out?
“The stand out feature of Abigael’s entry is the way it shows off the incredible shine that hue-verse provides. The hair is dressed beautifully to complement the colour and technique, while the lighting, angle of the shot and model styling all work perfectly to create an epic shot. The winner has used a clever foil placement to create visual highs and lows within the hair, paired with a perfect copper formulation for depth and shine.” Jay Kownacki, head of education and product development
“A great hue-verse formula uses simplicity to allow the carefully-formulated shades do the heavy-lifting, combined with clever and thoughtful combinations to customise and enhance the result. Using two complementary tone families in this way gives a beautiful refinement and bespoke quality to the result. Plus, it showcases the earthy and elevated copper tones that have surged in popularity for the last 12 months.” Tom Smith, creative colour director
The prize
The prize is a phenomenal win, we say! Listen to this… by taking out this year’s competition, Abigael has won an all-expenses-paid trip to Australia to go behind-the-scenes at an upcoming photoshoot. And she will work with the evo Creative Team. So now you know…. next year… keep your eyes on the evo prize. Good luck!
