Carbon Neutral vs Net-Zero

We are all trying to do our best to protect the planet these days – with sustainable haircare brand, Davines leading the way for us. However, when it comes to understanding the difference between Carbon Neutral and Net Zero things start to get tricky.

What does Carbon Neutral mean?

Being a carbon neutral company means that Davines balances their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. They offset the amount of carbon removed from the atmostphere by producing an equivalent amount.

Davines also takes responsibility for emissions not under their direct control – for instance, they monitor, reduce and compensate 100% of the emissions collected from packaging life cycles – beyond the commitment of Carbon Neutrality but part of the journey to Net Zero.

What does Net Zero mean?

Davines have committed to become a Net Zero company by 2030. To be Net Zero, Davines will also have to tackle the  emissions indirectly related to its products.  This is where the support of hairdressers and clients becomes crucial. The  use phase – in salon and at home- is the biggest source of indirect emissions for haircare and beardcare.

Start the revolution

Choose a green energy supplier – One of the main ways to fight climate change is to choose renewable energy sources, from which very little or no CO2eq is emitted. Most suppliers now offer sustainable options. Re-check your contract and make sure it includes only solar, wind, biomass or hydro energy.

Reduce the amount of energy you use – When taking care of hair/beauty, at home or in salon, be conscious of the quantity of energy in use! Most of the CO2eq emissions related to haircare prodcuts come from the heating of the water. But also from hairdryers or other styling tools.
