Anti Ageing Colour and Trends

When we think of hair colour, anti-ageing may not come to mind, however dull de-moisturised hair can transform the appearance of your hair. As with the skincare we use, our hairstyle can have an anti-ageing impact too. During wintertime it is more important than ever to care for your hair and these tips can make the world of difference. From the colours, shapes and styling you combine you can add an air of youth. There are a few tricks we as professionals can carry out to help our clients look and feel younger.

JOICO European Design Team Member, Gill Berry says…

“For brunettes, adding slices of caramel and honey blonde tones can soften their colour and in turn their features. The addition of lighter pieces scattered carefully throughout also adds volume and depth to the hair that is synonymous with youth.

A general colouring technique which can be applied to almost all hair styles is to paint colour  freehand. This is something as hair colourists we use a lot however we may overlook the anti-ageing benefits of this. The client’s hair appears sun kissed which emulates a warm, youthful glow and as it grows out it leaves no telltale signs. Perfect to brighten the complexion during A/W. My go to product for this is the JOICO Vero K-Pak Age Defy. A permanent crème colour that reverses obvious signs of ageing in the hair including texture, luster and colour.

For blondes, contrast is key. One all over blonde tone is ageing and draining to the complexion. Use a root drag technique or add face framing lightness blending into a subtle balayage to create contrast and vitality.  By encouraging your blonde clients to add some darker tones into their hair, they will reap the anti-ageing awards. I love the brand new JOICO LumiShine LUMI10 to cover greys too for a completely age defying effect.”

JOICO European Color Design Team Member, Paul Watts also commented…

“When it comes to creating anti-ageing hair colour, I love to use money pieces to open up the face. Use complimentary colours in line with the clients skin tone to show off their beautiful face and enhance their complexion. Baby lights and freehand lightening will help you in being able to mimic the natural lighter grey pieces coming through, making regrowth looking less visible and less harsh.

To enable your clients to continue their anti-ageing hair journey at home, after care is crucial. This is especially important during winter as your hair is more vulnerable than normal. As a hairdresser we need to make sure we are offering and using the best products to add moisture and shine back into the hair. To keep hair looking youthful, the JOICO K-Pak 4 Step Hair Repair is my go to for making hair look and feel virgin like again. This repairs and restores the hair.”
