Angelo on 2018 industry events…

Before talking hair – just to say how much I enjoyed the Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s annual Christmas luncheon and awards, held early December at London’s Dorchester Hotel. I love the fact that as well as paying tribute to Fellowship members for their on-going efforts, it celebrates new names who’ll be shaping our industry in the future. Bring them on! It’s also a brilliant opportunity for top names to network, catch up and celebrate together. And from a personal point of view, I was delighted to receive the Fellowship’s Patron Award. What a wonderful surprise. It’s an honour to acknowledge my commitment to always help the organisation whenever I can. It’s so important to demonstrate your skills and techniques to fellow professionals – beneficial for everyone and it helps drive our business forward.

Angelo on clients today…

Respect also asks me for some thoughts about today’s salon clients. Well let me say women today are way more knowledgeable about their personal look. Social media – Instagram especially –  makes everyone aware of how others focus so hard on looking their best – be it real or fake imagery – making people very self-aware of their image and the choices they have to make themselves look better. Women know far more nowadays about what’s available in hair, fashion and makeup to help them look and feel great. They are also more rigid in their opinions, thinking they know exactly what does and doesn’t suit them. But sometimes women have a weird view of themselves and that’s why our job as an advisor must never change. It’s our responsibility to work with our clients; listen, but read between the lines to really understand what they want for themselves.

Reflection CollectionAngelo on natural beauty…

I always look to a women’s natural beauty before enhancing it with a bespoke look. For example, it could be a fabulous haircut to truly suit a beautiful face shape, or suggesting some hair extensions to boost lovely quality natural hair, which is a bit on the fine side. Or it could be enhancing amazing colour using either my Flamboyage technique or my new Imprinter tool – an exciting new concept for hair colouring conceived by me and designed alongside Davines. It creates graphic patterns on clients’ hair, giving you the opportunity to personalise every client’s look.

For example, a partial application on selected sections is ideal for clients who want hidden panels to reveal when they feel like it, or a complete application across the entire head is great for daring clients wanting to make an immediate impact. It took a long, long time to develop the Imprinting tool to perfect its ease of use for hairdressers. The concept of the Imprinter was published 10 years ago in well-known scientific magazines, and we’ve developed the idea to make it suitable for hair. We now have it Patented and plan for more on-going development.
