Aveda beach clean

What do you get when you mix a hair care brand and its mission to care for the world, with the Marine Conservation Society? Two planet-loving powerhouses that will do everything in their power to do good for the world – and that includes a big beach clean in Brighton ahead of Earth Month 2022!

We’re sure you know that Aveda has been making a significant impact on the environment since the brand launched its annual Earth Month campaign, so it’s no wonder so many Aveda salon representatives lent a helping hand with the beach clean. Led by Aveda’s UK trade sustainability ambassador Gina Conway, a team of 41 met at Brighton Beach on March 21st to help support the fight against marine litter in the UK. Whilst hard at work, the Marine Conservation Society conducted a ‘litter timeline’ using markers with different timeframes to demonstrate how long litter found in the marine environment takes to break down.

On the day, the team collected 65kg of litter and rubbish, with just over 70% being plastic and polystyrene. Gina said, “We were all shocked by the amount of litter we collected from the beach and absolutely horrified at how long some waste takes to break down. Aveda has always prioritised sustainability and is committed to supporting initiatives that help the planet, and so it was a truly inspirational and educational day for us all.”

Alongside this, and in aid of Earth Month and beyond, Aveda and its non-profit charity partner charity:water are seeking to provide clean water to 1.4 million people as well as giving sanitation and hygiene to people in need in its sourcing countries of India, Nepal and Madagascar.

There is so much inspirational and impactful work going on in the hair industry right now and this is no exception. Good work Aveda!
