With award season in full swing, we’ve been loving the return of IRL red-carpet events, and all the A-list glam that comes with them. It’s so good to have these inspirational celeb moments back, right?
Last weekend was no exception, with the return of the BAFTAs to Royal Albert Hall in London. Celebrating the best of the big screen, the evening was hosted by the sensational Rebel Wilson (featuring her controversial comedy obvs) and the extensive guest list wowed us with a spectacular display of award-winning talent and impeccable style.
We’ve caught up with some of our hair industry favourites to get the low-down on their favourite looks from the evening…
Old Hollywood glam was a definite trend throughout the evening. Marina Hodgins, salon owner of Fringe Benefits, Gloucester says: “Lady Gaga looked stunning at this year’s BAFTAS, making a stunning statement with a combination of classic waves, dramatic lashes and flawless makeup. Her whole look oozed glamour.” Coventry-based stylist Gráinne McClelland agrees, adding: “Lady Gaga stole the show for me with her polished waves. I loved the detail in the finger wave that skimmed her cheekbone, framing her face perfectly.”
Rebel Wilson also wowed in her take on a 1940s-inspired look, Tim Scott-Wright says: “I am a huge fan of red carpet, Hollywood glamour and Rebel Wilson’s BAFTAs look had this in spades. A perfect blonde with gentle waves through the mid lengths and ends, swept to the side for a classic finish.”
Salon owner Anne Veck adds, “Lashana Lynch’s look is beautifully elegant. I love this look – the simplicity of the hair is so eye-catching. This is the epitome of Black Hollywood Glamour and the beautiful Marcel waves are the perfect way to complete the look.”
In a win for Gen Z, middle partings reigned the red-carpet, making it clear it is a look that is here to stay.
Dublin-based salon manager and stylist, Anna Stubbs says: “My favourite trends from the BAFTAs were the sleek middle parts seen on Emma Watson, Millie Bobby Brown and Maya Jama.” Adding her top tips for recreating the look, she says: “My best tip is to use a pin tail comb, line it up vertically on your nose and push backwards for the perfect middle parting. Be sure use a firm hold hair spray to keep the parting super sleek and to banish any fly aways.”
Salon owner Tim Scott-Wright says: “Millie’s updo had a gothic glamour feel, with a statement centre parting that continues into her fringe. It’s such a gorgeous look, with added details that make the finished style interesting with added edge.”
Tori Kiff from The Hair Lounge, Barnstaple commented: “Simone Ashley showed off some gorgeous, tousled texture with her hair styled into stunning waves that really popped against her bright pink outfit.”
Valerie Kelly, VK Hairdressing, Londonderry adds, “Sienna Millar’s statement ivory gown and black gloves looked incredible, but everything pointed to her hair for me with her warm blonde locks in a classic centre part with 70s style bangs – perfect!”
Barry Maddocks, Creative Director at Haringtons concluded “Naomi Campbell looked like the absolute Queen that she is, the understated sleek with a centre parting is stunning she screams effortless beauty and I’m totally here for it!”
