Summer hair with Sabrina Dijkman

As the days warm up clients will be wanting to get their hair summer ready. Certainly styling products like texturising sprays, balms and mousses are popular in the warmer months but care products are equally as important. Ensure your clients know they need extra haircare in summer to prevent sun, humidity and chlorine damage.

Haircare for summer with Sabrina Dijkman

Alterna ambassador Sabrina Dijkman says she uses bond-building products to prep hair for the summer season. Her favourites: Alterna Caviar Bond Repair Shampoo and Conditioner. As hair is more damage-prone in summer Sabrina says bond-building products are essential to repair hair and mend split ends. The Alterna Caviar Bond Repair range also includes a masque; recommend for clients with extra dry hair as this is a deeply moisturising product.

Time to nourish

Sabrina says clients should use a leave-in moisturising spray to nourish hair and keep it free from tangles. The Alterna Caviar Replenishing Moisture Priming Leave-In Conditioner is one of Sabrina’s favourites; it protects hair from heat up to 232°C. You can tell clients to spritz in hair after coming out of the pool or the sea to prevent it from drying out.

Styling for summer

Once you help your client’s nail their haircare routine they can invest in some quality styling products. In the summer Sabrina advises her clients to avoid hot tools. The sun is already causing heat damage to hair, clients won’t want to cause more heat damage as this leads to colour fading and frizziness. Instead, tell clients to invest in products that will enhance their natural hair. Sabrina’s favourite styling product: My Hair. My Canvas. Easy Does It Air Dry Balm. Clients can apply to their natural hair to provide frizz-control and enhance their natural style.

Beach waves

Beach waves are always popular in summer and Sabrina says the easiest way to achieve this is with a texturising product. Her suggestion: My Hair. My Canvas. Any Way Texture Spray. Spritz into clients hair and scrunch it up for added texture and bounce.

Looking polished

We hear low slung ponytails and sleek buns are also trending this season; two looks which require minimal styling. Ideal for clients with busy schedules. In summer clients will often want their hair up and out of their faces due to the heat…they may also want to disguise sweat. Serums could be a great way to disguise oily hair while creating a sleek finish. These also add moisture and hydration, ideal. Sabrina suggests the Alterna Caviar Replenishing Moisture Intensive Ceramide Shots for your clients this summer. The product comes in capsules- perfect for travel and on the go.
