At the heart of Butchers’ success is a commitment to sustainability at its Shoreditch, London, Chester and Leicester salons. From gender-neutral pricing to responsible product choices and an ongoing focus on reducing waste, the group has positioned itself as a leader in eco-conscious hairdressing.
As part of its long-term vision, Butchers is working towards becoming a carbon-neutral salon group, and with this in mind has appointed a team member to the role of Green Leader, overseeing environmental initiatives and tracking progress.
Butchers has also implemented a series of practical, but impactful changes across its salons, including the use of compostable Scrummi towels, which biodegrade within 12 weeks, and plant-based cleaning products from Bio-D, made in the UK using ethically sourced ingredients and 100% recycled packaging.
Sustainability at Butchers extends beyond the salons and their teams, with the group actively encouraging clients to make more environmentally conscious choices, creating a shared responsibility between stylist and guest when it comes to greener haircare.
Co-founder Susannah Richardson said: “Being recognised on a global stage means everything to us, not because of the title but because of what it represents. Every decision we’ve made, from the products we stock to the way we price our services, has been intentional. This is 12 years of quiet conviction finally being seen.”
