Bruno Marc Giamattei is a respected name in the hairdressing industry and an ambassador for the Fellowship for British Hairdressing. His expertise is based on both sides of the industry: behind the chair as a salon stylist and in his role as creative ambassador for Joico UK and EMEA.
Covering different areas within the hair industry, Bruno has curated his kit bag to be ready for anything. New clients, unfamiliar hair textures, or situations such as a photo shoot that demands quick thinking and adaptability, and of course, space to constantly evolve.
“A working kit shouldn’t be about carrying dozens of products; it’s about having the right combination of tools, techniques and supporting formulations that allow you to respond to the hair in front of you. Over time, certain tools and products earn a permanent place in the kit bag because they consistently help to shape, refine and protect the hair while maintaining its natural integrity.” Bruno says.
Let’s take a closer look at his kit bag!

What’s in Bruno’s kit bag
Whether he’s styling hair on stage or on a shoot, these are the essentials he relies on at different stages of styling.
For preparing the hair, Bruno thinks it is a key step. Achieving this means the cuticle and hair surface are smooth and everything else becomes easier to control.
Bruno explains which products and tools he relies on for this process:

“To prep effectively, I’ll often work a small amount of Joico Dream Blowout Glass 72-Hour Frizz Fighter through the mid-lengths and ends before drying. This product is fantastic for calming frizz and smoothing the hair surface without making it feel coated or heavy, which is important when you’re relying on airflow and brush work to build shape.
The next step usually involves working through the hair, and my go-to is the Denman vent brush, which works for various hair lengths. The vented design allows air to move directly through the section, increasing airflow and helping the hair dry faster while building natural body and movement at the same time.
Paired with my ghd hairdryer and flat iron, the process becomes very controlled; its interchangeable nozzles allow for more concentrated airflow when precision is needed, while the diffuser attachments can soften the airflow to encourage natural movement or texture. Once the hair begins to respond well to the brush and airflow, the shape starts to develop almost organically.”

Building lift and structure can be challenging, particularly with finer textures or shorter shapes. Bruno says his best ally when building lift is Joico RiseUp Powder Spray, applying it directly to the roots where the hair needs some additional support. He works the product through the hair with his hands or a brush to separate and create movement.
“Healthy hair should always be the focus and sits at the centre of any beautiful style. When the hair is dehydrated or weakened, even the best tools won’t perform the way they should.” Bruno explains.
When Bruno works with coarse, dry or colour-treated hair, his go-to product is Joico Moisture Recovery 24-hour Moisture Recharge for softness and elasticity. This makes a noticeable difference and allows the brush to move through sections easily, making the finished look smoother without using heavy styling.
For refining the shape, and getting clean, precise cutting, Bruno works with Wing scissors, for its convex stainless-steel blades. They are comfortable to use for longer periods, which is what makes a difference when doing small refinements and detailed adjustments.

The wild card in Bruno’s hair kit
Bruno reveals his wild card in his kit bag that helps bring a look to life in shoots.
It might be one of the most unexpected tools… a leaf blower!
It delivers high-volume, high-speed airflow, creating lift, texture, and a dynamic “windswept” effect that is hard to get with a standard hair tool. It’s a must for Bruno’s when working on editorial shoots.
Bruno defines his kit as: “My kit bag is never static; it evolves with every project and every client. But the principle remains the same. The right tools, techniques and carefully chosen products allow me to respond to whatever the hair needs at that moment.”
Every stylist’s kit bag tells a different story. Tools may overlap, but it’s the techniques and personal approach that shape how they are used. After a look inside Bruno’s kit bag, we’re curious to know: what’s the most unexpected tool in yours?
