You know the moment. When a client feels like too much length has been cut off.
Katy Grimshaw, founder of Spectrum One Hair Extensions, has found a way to tackle this moment with her first ever extensions cutting course – No-Length-Loss cut – engineered to help extensionists to take their finish to a whole new level.
This isn’t a simple ‘cut and blend’, it’s a cutting course library that will arm stylists with the knowledge they need to overcome any cutting, blending or finish challenges.
What is a No-Length-Loss Cut?
The perfect candidate for a No-Length-Loss cut is the client who wants to keep every inch of their new hair extensions. They’ve chosen the amount of inches they want pre-appointment, and they’re set on it!

Step by step
Step 1: Before you apply any extensions, focusing on the bottom centimeter of the clients lengths, point cut upwards to soften that line. Ensure the scissor position is completely vertical.
Step 2: Continue with this cutting technique in smaller sections at a diagonal angle.
Step 3: Tackle the side of the hair by creating a subdivide to the back of the ear. Don’t cut into the front section closer to the face as that can be later layered from the front.

Step 4: At this stage complete your hair extensions install.
Step 5: Have the client stand and tip their chin forward holding onto the chair for stability. Take the new bottom centimetre of the length and point cut to the length of the hair you want to create. For a blunter edge keep the motion refined with small movements. Keep the scissors at a vertical angle, cutting horizontally will create unevenness.

Step 6: Now the client will switch to standing with their head tipped back slightly to give graduation to the hair. Continue to cut the bottom centimeter as needed, don’t worry about the wedge effect as this will be addressed when cutting from the front
