The Great British Beauty Clean Up

With B Corp Month on the horizon, sustainability is firmly back in focus with new research that shows the next generation is ready for change!

A recent British Beauty Council and UNiDAYS survey of 3,533 UK students revealed that 84% already recycle their beauty empties, while 80% actively seek sustainable brands. For 43%, sustainability is “extremely” or “very” important when making beauty purchases. The intention is there, but barriers remain.

This is where salons can step forward.

Samantha Cusick

Launching on 2nd March, the Great British Beauty Clean Up — led by the British Beauty Council — is calling on salons to become official recycling drop-off locations. Samantha Cusick, founder of Samantha Cusick Londonand Stā Studios, is urging the sector to unite behind the initiative following her recent sustainability wins at the British Hairdressing Business Awards and Pro Hair Awards 2025.

“Sustainability can’t sit with just a few brands or individuals; it has to be collective,” Samantha says.

With 56% of consumers still not recycling bathroom empties, salons have a clear opportunity to drive change. Partnering with MYGroup, the campaign provides pre-paid recycling boxes for hard-to-recycle beauty waste, making participation practical and impactful.

As Earth Month reminds us, small actions can create industry-wide transformation.
