Has Gigi Hadid entered her dark era? Debuting a striking mini matte black bob that has instantly set the hair world buzzing. Known for her signature blonde, the supermodel unveiled a dramatic transformation last weekend thanks to her hairdresser Dimitris Giannetos. The result is bold, editorial and effortlessly cool – *adds to Pinterest board*.
After spotting Gigi swap her golden blonde to a deep, vampy brunette we reached out to Creative Director at Rush, Seung Ki Baek to get his take on the transformation. “It’s a deep, dark ‘Espresso Martini’ brunette with ribbons of black blended throughout. The cool undertones with absolutely no warmth, make it the perfect shade for winter. The rich, glossy finish gives the hair a truly mesmerising shine.”
The multidimensional tone beautifully enhances Gigi’s features, particularly her bright blue eyes. Baek adds:“If your client has green or blue eyes like Gigi, this shade will really make their eyes pop. What I love most is how customisable it is — you could even blend in delicate ribbons of blonde for a 90s-inspired finish.” – Ah, the nostalgia we love a nod to 90’s.
The cut itself is just as impactful. Gigi’s hair has been styled into a midi bob, sitting between the jawline and shoulder, finished with runway-ready, flippy ends. While the look feels sharp and modern, it’s also incredibly timeless. “Gigi is often described as having a round face shape, which makes the midi bob ideal for elongating the face and accentuating her stronger features,” explains Baek. “It’s also a great option for clients who want to experiment with shorter hair without committing to a drastic chop.”

Styling is key to achieving the look’s effortless edge. For that signature flick, Baek recommends using a medium-sized round brush, styling the ends outwards to exaggerate the movement. “To achieve the same ‘wet’ look, I’d recommend using a light spritz of texture spray to boost volume and style the hair, following up with a light-hold gel throughout the lengths for added movement.”
