Movida

Marimar Giménez and Juan Luis Soira fooled us with their Movida collection. Using AI to create a Spanish style 80’s punk look-book. Nicely done!

Inspiration

La Movida was an aesthetic and emotional Big Bang: the ecstatic adolescence of a nation that, after the long night of Francoism, reclaimed the right to dream in colour. In Madrid, punk slippedthrough the cracks of the system and blended with domestic glam, arty pop, guilt-free kitsch, and a neighborhood Dadaism that turned any bedroom into a set.

This collection, generated entirely with AI, doesn’t illustrate the past; it remixes it for 2025/2026 and turns it into the language of hairdressing. We present four images as a small visual manifesto where hair speaks: fringes as sharp as fanzine headlines, triangular volumes that defy gravity, evolved mullets, shags, and pixie-shags/pixie-mullets with razor precision.

The colours speak of energy and nightlife: luminous coppers with shadow roots, pearl platinum with a pink glaze, beige-ash panels, and a translucent turquoise that nods to neon. Texture swings between satin polish and controlled disorder; the finish is tactile, almost sonic—like a guitar strumming at Rock-Ola.

Sexual ambiguity—so intrinsic to that scene—emerges in the duo “Neon Twins,” where identities rub off on each other: there is no she/he, only attitude. In the background, an emotional lineage: Ouka Leele and García-Alix, La Edad de Oro, Malasaña, and the cassettes that documented the urgency.

Using AI here fits the spirit of La Movida: appropriation, collage, low-fi turned high-fi. Just as magazines were once assembled with scissors and glue, today we assemble pixels to build icons that feel new yet familiar.

The editorial goal is clear: to offer an exportable rereading of the 1980–1985 Madrid aesthetic that breathes today. Not nostalgia, but the present: hairdressing as manifesto, image as a shout, and Madrid as a verb.
