Oxymoron: ‘a figure of speech combining contradictory words with opposing meanings’
This LFW season was full of iconic styles that varied in texture, shape and aesthetic: one look that specifically stood out to us this was Gary Baker’s ‘oxymoron ponytail’ at the Oxford Fashion Studio SS26 show.
Gary describes this look as dual textured; ‘the look starts with a high gloss slick back ponytail that continues down to the nape of the neck.’

Get the look
To prep the hair to achieve the desired texture and mouldability for this look you can use our UNITE 7SECONDS Detangler, then you can begin to create the first step. To secure this shape and allow high shine, you can use our UNITE MAXCONTROL Hairspray and combination of UNITE 7SECONDS Glossing spray.

These runway styles consisted of two variations, one being a samurai knot or a ‘lived in bed head’ placed on the back of the head. To produce this look on your own client, depending on their hair texture, you can go in with some UNITE TEXTURIZA Spray to help this style hold. To build this ponytail, Gary strategically twisted sections of the hair and began securing intentional pieces to start a structure of layers. He then pulled out certain parts to bring the ‘lived in’ aesthetic to life.
Gary states this look is complete when it achieves the correct balance of ‘unnatural but also very natural aswell, as I said before the oxymoron of ponytails.’
