Collaborating with like-minded people and initiatives is a great way to express your brand DNA, and we’re loving news of Australian haircare brand evo buddying with not-for-profit organisation The Dresscode Project. This is a timely announcement as Pride month is June and World Pride Day is 28 June. Now as much as ever, we should be supporting the LGBTQ2S+ community. Creating more gender-affirming salons around the world is a great way to do this, and evo is leading the way. Let us tell you about The Dresscode Project and how it works:
About The Dresscode Project
Each of us, each person we engage with, deserves to have a positive experience at their local salon or with their hairdresser. Every single person should experience walking out of a hair appointment with a haircut, style or colour that helps them look the way they feel. Sadly this isn’t always how it goes.
For the LGBTQ2S+ community, gendered-pricing and services can lead to uncomfortable interactions and less-than-desirable outcomes. The Dresscode Project is founded by Kristin Rankin (they/them), and intends to educate salons on how they can become a safer space for the queer community to help clients to express their identity. The Dresscode Project also facilitates gender-free haircut clubs where hairstylists and salons provide their talent and space to give gender-affirming haircuts to marginalised queer individuals and at no cost. Since 2016, Kristin themself has provided more than 1,000 queer clients with gender-affirming haircuts to help them look the way they feel.
