Blonde is a trend that will never fall out of favour! Clients love to revamp their look and will experiment with shades of blonde time and time again. To help you find inspiration in the salon, award-winning men’s hairdresser, Jim Shaw at Toni&Guy Billericay, shares his comments on blondes for men. His experience running a column and working on set makes him a great source of inspo!
Read on for Jim’s run down of trending colour looks:

Sun-kissed blonde
Jim: This shade of blonde is synonymous with sun-kissed skin. I love using freehand colour techniques with lighter blonde and golden tones when creating this look. This gives the hair a natural, lived-in feel while making a big impact.
Dirty-blonde surfer
Jim: Opt for a dirty-blonde shade for your clients embracing a carefree, beach-inspired style. This shade mimics the sun-bleached effect of spending long days by the ocean. I love to use freehand techniques when creating this look, working with a darker, more natural blonde colour.
Barbie
Jim: Thanks to Barbie, platinum blonde is making a comeback for men who want to channel Ken. Platinum blonde hair offers a distinctive appearance, setting individuals apart from the crowd. Whether styled in a sleek and modern way or paired with more unconventional cuts, platinum blonde makes a statement.

Blonde highlights
Jim: For male clients who aren’t ready to commit to an all-over blonde look, blonde highlights are a great way to add depth and dimension to their natural hair colour. Subtle, strategically placed highlights that blend seamlessly with the client’s base colour will create a sun-kissed effect.
Blonde Undercut
Jim: The Blonde Undercut is another way to embrace the blonde hair colour trend without being too daring. When creating this look, I like to keep the sides and back of the hair short while leaving the top long and blonde for a stylish and versatile look.
Blonde care tips from Jim Shaw
Now that we’ve covered trending blonde colours, Jim tackles blond-care tips…
Jim: It’s important to remind your clients that blonde hair requires a lot of maintenance. Achieving blonde hair often requires bleaching/pre-lightening, colouring and toning. Hair goes through a longer colour process which can be damaging. A few aftercare tips to advise your blonde male clients are:

Proper haircare
Jim: Blonde hair can be more delicate and prone to damage, so your clients must adopt a proper hair care routine. Recommend a shampoo and conditioner specifically formulated for colour-treated/blonde hair to maintain vibrancy.
Tone and refresh
Jim: Over time, blonde hair can develop brassy or yellow tones. Recommend a purple or blue toning shampoo or conditioner. This neutralises unwanted warmth and helps maintain a cool tone.
Heat protection
Jim: Heat-styling damages all hair-types, but blonde hair is more susceptible. Inform your clients so they know to prioritise heat protection.
Sun protection
Like their skin, the sun’s harmful UV rays can also affect your client’s blonde hair. Recommend a hat or a UV-protective spray for prolonged periods in the sun.
Regular trims
Schedule regular trims to keep your client’s hair looking fresh and healthy. This will help prevent split ends and maintain their hairstyle’s overall appearance and shape.
Rest
While your clients may want to continuously bleach or dye their hair to achieve a lighter shade or maintain the blonde, they must give hair time to rest between chemical processes. Overprocessing can lead to damage, breakage, and weakened hair.
Thanks to Jim for sharing! Hopefully these comments inspire you to create your own blondes in the salon.
