At Haute Couture Fashion Week the clothes are often so ornate and detailed, the hair team will need to keep looks minimal, clean and pared back for contrast.
For this 2023 Paris Haute Couture week we saw this with understated, uncluttered looks at Dior and Alexandre Vauthier. While softer loose hair did come through at Chanel (hair: James Pecis) and Alexis Mabille (hair: Beppe D’Elia), though never too daringly wild. For the natural wet finish, have a look at Georges Hobeika (hair: Laurent Philippon) … interesting.
This moved into a more sleek, high-gloss hairstyles to mirror high-gloss make-up came with impossibly chic and sleek looks at Elie Saab. The fierce and full-blown ‘done’ hair drew in some reference to iconic beauty queens, such as the Josephine Baker inspired kiss-curls at Fendi (Guido) and Giambattista Valli (hair: Pier Paolo Lai). Haute Couture shows were getting playful!
Magical special event accessories were outrageous and delightful at Gaultier (hair: Duffy) and by the time we saw Iris Van Herpen (hair: Antoinette Beenders) working dress, headpiece and hair so well, as we’d expect from her, they were excessive. But we forgive – the drama darling, so necessary!
Haute Couture special moments
Special mention to Thom Browne who gave us something extraordinary with a moving grey on grey show including bells, birds and wigs on headpieces that remind us, hair is soo important. What a show! We loved it.For more of the latest industry news click here
