News added 01/03/18: Clever thing! Lisa Whiteman has nabbed the hottest new salon spot in central London and installed her first solo venture, Whiteman.Soho, in Ham Yard village. Yep, she’s part of the uber-cool Ham Yard hotel set now, with a cool premises right opposite the front door (great for celeb-spotting as this is seriously the place they all stay.) Lisa is a triple threat in our eyes – being a great cutter and colourist as well as an astute business woman – she knows a thing or two about customer service for sure. How about the decision to replace her reception desk with a colour bar and an iPad? True. Now a roving concierge takes bookings and delivers bills to clients at the styling station, leaving the Whiteman’s team to take centre-stage to showcase the real drama of selecting and mixing colour. We love it.
News added 14/12/17: We’ve gone all bucolic on spotting the pictures for Matthew Curtis new salon in the cosy village of Chipping Norton! Not that there’s any hint of country bumpkin in these plush yet homely surroundings. Following on from his swish premises in the high street at Stratford-on-Avon and in the spa Hoar Cross and Rosewood London hotels, Matthew translates his 5-star signature style into this Cotswold listed building… and how fabulous! Browse our gallery to see a bespoke champagne bar, personalised lighting and painted wall panels…
News added 30/11/17: Celebrating 30 years in the industry with the opening of its 11th salon, the Westrow group in Yorkshire is grown up big and strong! The latest premises in Bingley showcases a luxe, stylish interior that brings a bit of NYC loft living with exposed brickwork and the concept of zoning to retain a sense of space throughout. We love how franchisee Hayley Rae and Westrow’s director Steve Rowbottom have conjured up a homely yet premium look. Browse all the pictures to see what’s inspired us. We’re told that, to create this feeling “luxurious bespoke furnishings – including an oversized modern chandelier – were custom-made for the salon. This impression of luxury and opulence exudes throughout the entire space, with plush blush-pink velvet armchairs filling the waiting area and a French antique dressing table in the centre of the salon adding to the air of exclusivity. A white Corian and bronze mirrored desk – inspired by the Givenchy store in Paris – stands boldly in reception, making the ultimate style statement to clients as they enter the salon.” We love it. So modern and brave, yet very accessible. An indulgent backwash zone featuring state-of-the-art backwash (fully reclining) chairs seal the deal. Bliss.
News added 16/11/17: We’re pleased to spot more new salons bravely adopting a clearly individual design aesthetic rather than slavishly following at mass trend. It had become a little fatiguing to many groups constructing a corporate, branded look and applying it to multiple premises. Bravo to the family business behind Boilerhouse in Newcastle. After 32 years with a single salon in Jesmond, they’ve opened a second in nearby Ouseburn that resembles their established trademark style – beautiful old building, exposed feel with attention to detail and lots of plants – yet is different. And so personal. We love it.
News added 03/11/16: Bumping into Joseph Ferraro at Sebastian Professional’s Cult team power day this week we hear he’s opening his second salon in Harrogate, Yorkshire. We likey like how the picture (above) hanging in his new shop says it all! While Australian Joseph (who was a member of the Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s FAME Team back in 2011 and is now a leader for the Clubstar team), views himself as salon-based, but relies on his crew of professionals to run the show while he travels extensively. Success, says Joseph, comes from establishing a super-tight team which gives him peace of mind while on the road for education and working hair shows and designers shows (including Fashion Weeks) as well as mentoring Fellowship youngsters. He’s got time for the artistic pursuits, too, as he’s in the running for a NE Hairdresser of the Year 2016 award later this month, too.
