News added 13/02/18: SHE’S A DIAMOND
Caroline Kells is a full-time educator for KEVIN.MURPHY. She started her hairdressing career with an apprenticeship at Elements in Oxted, and fell in love with the ability to make people look and feel amazing. Realising that her passion lay in education, she joined KEVIN.MURPHY as a freelance educator and now she’s been promoted to DIAMOND.KEY – a serious accomplishment! We caught up with her to find out more …
• Congratulations Caroline! Tell us what this means to you?
I can’t believe it! It is such an honour to become a DIAMOND.KEY – being part of the KEVIN.MURPHY education team has always felt very special to me. KM has a very unique and supportive approach. Their mantra is “never above you, never below you, always beside you”, which in my experience is very true. I strive to deliver and support my colleagues and other stylists in this way.
• How will being a DIAMOND.KEY change your career?
It means I’ll be supporting my colleagues as much as possible. But that I’ll also get to work backstage at Fashion Weeks, too. When you’re backstage, you work in synergy with a team and it’s really fast paced and exciting. I love bringing back what I have learnt and sharing it with salons.
• How did you first get involved with Kevin Murphy?
I started using KEVIN.MURPHY in the first salon I worked in and it was always my go-to choice. When I visited SESSION.SALON – I fell in love with the brand. It reignited my passion for hairdressing and I knew I had to be a part of it. So, I became a freelance KEY when I wasn’t working in the salon, and now I work full-time teaching KEVIN.MURPHY and COLOR.ME.
• What do you love about the brand?
It’s values. FASHION, PERFORMANCE and ENVIRONMENT. Everything KM does is centred around these three pillars, and they always stay true to their philosophies. The brand wouldn’t be what it was if it wasn’t for the people behind it, too. Kevin is so inspiring and so humble, and everyone in the KM family is the same. It’s lovely to be a part of it.
• Any favourite products?
There are so many! But I’d have to say ANTI.GRAVITY, MAXI.WASH and STAYING.ALIVE
News added 08/02/18: We’re loving KEVIN.MURPHY’s new B2B education platform on Instagram (@KevinMurphy.EducationUK). Unlike, some of the brand’s other platforms, this Instagram account is 100% hairdresser-oriented. More of this please, we say! A place to share KM inspiration, colour formulas, styling tips and tricks, how-tos, events and so much more… These days, its imperative that brands are able to provide on-the-go education, and a way to share their latest news instantaneously with the widest audience possible in order to keep up in our digital world. We caught a moment with KEVIN.MURPHY’S UK education and events manager, Anneliese Hesse, to find out why she launched KM’s new education platform…
“Education is key in any industry to grow and to maintain creativity. Everyone is becoming increasingly busy; so we wanted to offer bitesize, easily accessible education, inspiration and relevant trade news to cater to this. And to allow hairdressers to feel part of a community and the KEVIN.MURPHY family. We’ve had a great response already with stylists and colorists sharing their work, asking advice and engaging across the UK, and beyond! Although we will always continue to deliver education in person, we also plan to utilize social media for live education, such as webinars and demonstrations, to ensure education is truly accessible to everyone.
How important is it to you to be creating content that is for a trade/professional audience exclusively?
“Very. KEVIN.MURPHY and COLOR.ME are premium, professional-only products, and thus intended for use by the professional hairdresser. KEVIN.MURPHY’s brand image is all about beautiful, wearable looks, and it’s important to inspire the experts to ensure their clients are always inspired, too. The themes for this Instagram account are aimed solely at the professional to help them stay ahead of the trends and be able to offer the most cutting-edge services and styles to their customers. It is also an ideal platform for professionals to network and to share their work on a global scale, too.”
Sounds cool, doesn’t it? Be sure to give them a follow, and for a chance to be featured on the @KevinMurphy.EducationUK Instagram account, why not tag them in pictures of your work!
News added 01/02/18: After working together for 30 years, Jo Pritchard and Audra Allard decided to open their own salon: The Avenue in Malvern, Worcestershire. Nine years later, they have a solid team that includes Vicky Bird, Sophie Hill, Yvonne Lewis, and are welcoming a new stylist called Yaz this month. Together, they raised more than £1,000 for KEVIN.MURPHY’s Coppafeel appeal, and won two tickets to FUTURE.LOVE in Prague for their efforts. We applaud their efforts, and caught up with Audra to find out more…
Tell us how you did it?
We had great pleasure in raising money for CoppaFeel. It’s a great cause and we know many people who have been affected by breast cancer (including one of our team); which is probably why we had such passion to give it our all. We began our fundraising outside the salon with a charity golf game and a raffle in a local pub – two men offered to ‘brave the shave’ and had their heads shaved by me! In the salon, we held a raffle for a cake that was in the shape of a pair of breasts – it was very eye-catching on the reception desk! But we felt we wanted to make our fundraising memorable… We used KEVIN.MURPHY’s pink products, balloons, stickers and badges all around the salon, too. Our total fundraising amount was an amazing £1,011! We’re so proud. We had no idea that we would have raised most amongst all KEVIN.MURPHY salons in the UK. To win tickets to see Kevin Murphy at FUTURE.LOVE in Prague is an amazing bonus.
Tell us how you got involved with Kevin Murphy?
We were introduced to KEVIN.MURPHY products about three years ago, and started using COLOR.ME by KEVIN.MURPHY two years ago. COLOR.ME is one of the nicest, kindest colours on the hair that we have ever used. The shine and condition is visible straight away, and clients not only see the difference they feel it, too. Some of our clients choose us because we use KEVIN.MURPHY – for the PETA-approved products and ethical values of the brand. The fact that it’s sulphate- and paraben- free, as well as environmentally friendly with great packaging is wonderful. Our clients really trust their hair in our hands, and we trust KEVIN.MURPHY. We’ve enjoyed working with all aspects of the brand, and love that KM speaks the stylist language. We have a varied age group of clients and the range speaks to all of them.
Finally, what are you most looking forward to about FUTURE.LOVE?
We’re so happy to have won the tickets to FUTURE.LOVE in Prague and hope to be inspired and excited by the weekend’s events, and hope to bring back something different to share with our salon. We’re especially excited about meeting Kevin Murphy himself!
To buy tickets for FUTURE.LOVE, Prague you can speak to KEVIN.MURPHY PARTNERSHIP.MANAGERS or from their Head Office team.
