News added 12/10/17: We’re fresh back from the Spanish capital of Barcelona where Goldwell hosted a fantastic edition of its annual gathering; Global Zoom. We joined more than 250 UK hairdressers (there were nearly 3000 in total) to enjoy a programme of presentations, seminars, shows and of course, the grand final of the Color Zoom 2017 competition.
High points for us were watching Lydia Wolfe at Tony Wood Hairdressing scoop the Stylists Favourite award in the Young Talent, with Caroline Brand at Oracle Hair & Beauty beating competitors from 38 other countries to take a respectable bronze in the Creative category. Overall global gold winners are: Maxim Sotnikov from Russia in the New Talent category; Dylan Tung from Singapore in the Creative category; Mio Sota from USA in the Partner category.
During Global Zoom 2017, guests were also given an exclusive look into the latest developments from Goldwell including a breakthrough innovation in hair colour: @Pure Pigments – a high definition direct dye additives that elevate hair colour with unprecedented vibrancy and brilliance [available in salons in 2018]. The performance was demonstrated in an onstage presentation of the 2018 collection: Elemental.
Over the weekend events included: the Master Design Team led by global haircutting ambassador, Jay Mahmood; MBE Salon Business panel discussions led by Kao Salon’s global president Cory Couts; KMS Global Style Council; a Farewell party across three of Barcelona’s hippest beach clubs – Carpe Diem, Opium, and Shuko. We loved it all!
News added 03/08/17: This past weekend, hundreds of hairdressers gathered at a new venue for our industry, the exciting Tobacco Dock in London where they attended Goldwell’s hotly-anticipated Color Zoom UK final. There were more than 500 in the crowd to hear the announcements of winners in the the gold, silver and bronze categories for New Talent, Creative and Partner. As well as applauding the competition, guests were treated to two inspirational IN-FLUX themed catwalk shows presented by brand ambassadors Mark Leeson and Neil Barton, and enjoyed hearing from Beverly C who ran a mentorship programme with last year’s finalists. To finish? A party of all parties… held in a private ‘crypt’ on site. We joined revellers in a Spanish themed bash – inspired by the location of Global Zoom that will take place in Barcelona this October. Can’t wait!
So, who won what? The UK Color Zoom gold winners (who will receive an all-expenses paid trip with their model to the international final in Barcelona) are:
• New Talent: Lydia Wolfe @ Tony Wood Hairdressing
• Creative: Caroline Brand @ Oracle Hair & Beauty
• Partner: Nicholas Holmes @ Hobson & Holmes
A huge congratulations to all finalists and winners. From the Global Zoom final in Barcelona, the overall winner will be invited to join the Color Zoom creative team and together, the coveted opportunity to create the Color Zoom 2019 collection. Wowza! Here’s hoping one of the Brits makes the cut. Good luck guys!
News added 29/06/17: The Colour Zoom UK judges have spoken and we’re delighted to see a strong set of finalists in this year’s competition hosted by Goldwell. Entrants were invited to interpret the brand’s 2017 In-Flux theme – drawing on fluidity, creative convergence and a dark spirit. You can translate this as wanting your take on transitions between light and dark, soft and strong, heroic and mystical. Winners in three categories – New Talent, Creative, and Partner Colorist, will be announced end of July. Browse the 13 finalists pictures below:
News added 17/11/16: No stage too big or too small for Sam Burnett it seems. The owner of hare & Bone in London, and a regular backstage at London Fashion Week, Sam is also a key member of the KMS Global Style Council… and he’s still in his 20s! We saw him holding court in Stockholm last month infront of thousands at the GlobalZoom event, then last week at the infinitely more cosy environs of the London Institute of Contemporary Arts. Chatting informally with Irene Meikle, head of education in the UK for Goldwell and KMS, Sam shared notes on translating catwalk looks into salon styles. Good to note his mum in the audience – beaming proudly. Quite rightly.
News added 06/10/16: Global Zoom, Stockholm 2016
Va va voom! A smorgasbord of creativity, excitement and passion for hair, the Goldwell Global Zoom event in Stockholm last week was about as sexy as it gets in hairdressing. The highlight was the announcement of the 2016 winners of Color Zoom! We were submerged in two days of shows, competition and artist sessions which showcased the two brands of the Kao Salon Division: Goldwell and KMS, and proved them both as big hitters in the hairdressing cut/colour/styling know-how trend-stakes. Joining 3000 stylists from all over the world who converged on the Swedish capital, this was the time to celebrate a hair-tastic year for Kao. By day, the programme of workshops, demonstrations and stage shows rolled out in detail the relaunch of the iconic StyleSign range as well as previewing the upcoming relaunches of Dualsenses and a soon-to-be KMS update with ‘Style Matters’. We loved the big reveal of the latest Goldwell consumer campaign ‘Hair Heroes’ which reiterates the philosophy ‘we think stylist’ – putting the stylist as hero in the eyes of the client.
By night, packing out the enormous Ericsson Globe venue (the biggest spherical building in the world), 94 national finalists from 37 countries competed live to win the Color Zoom 2016 Live Final. A big congrats to winners [main picture above] : Sargis Alrapetian from Russia in the New Talent category; Larissa Bresnehan from Australia in the Creative category; and Daniel Rubin from USA in the Partner category. (An honourable mention for Georgia Wild from Iconic Hairdressers in the UK who seized silver in the Young Talent category).
Big hits for us included artist sessions from the KMS Style Council (including the UK’s Sam Burnett), and Shane Bennett and his artistic team – current holders of the Artistic Team of the Year at the British Hairdressing Awards. Oh yes, and the wealth of great party nights. Exhausted, we returned home full of the joys.
